WHO DO YOU LOVE? Chapter 9 Nick's View
"I'll see ya later B." I called back to Brian, as I slammed his car door shut.
He gave me a quick wave before speeding off. I quickly threw open my door, and raced to the answering machine.
"You have one new message," the robotic voice informed me.
"Please be Col, please be Col," I mumbled to myself.
"Uh hey Nick, it's Col. Look, I'm real sorry about before. I didn't mean what I said, and I do care about you. That sorta just slipped out and I'm sorry. So if you're not mad give me a call. Maybe we could catch a movie tonight or something. Oh and hows Brian doing? He's not picking up his phone either, and he's got his machine turned off. I'm worried about him Nick... really worried. Alright well I'll talk to you later."
Brian, Brian, Brian. He is all she fucking cares about. I was about to pick up the phone and call her back, when there was a knock at the door.
I swung open the door to find Colleen standing there.
"Hey," she mumbled, looking towards the ground.
"What're you doing here?" I shot back.
"Um, you weren't returning my call sooo... I decided to stop by."
"Come on in," I finally offered, after we had been standing in silence for quite awhile.
"Are you mad at me?" she questioned, leaning against the living room wall.
"Why would I be?" I sarcastically said.
"Nick, if you're mad then we can work it out."
"I repeat: why would I be mad?"
"You know... about what I said to Brian..."
"Oh yeah! Nah, I'm not mad about that at all because I feel the same exact way. Pretty cool right?" I laughed.
"What are you talking about?" she asked, giving me a strange look.
"Well you told Brian you didn't care about me... I don't care about you either Col. So I guess we're even." It hurt me to say that to her, but she needed to understand how I felt when she said it.
"You don't mean that."
"Oh yes I do. I'm dead serious baby."
"Alright if you wanna be like that... it's okay with me," she muttered. She grabbed her keys from the couch, and was out the door. That didn't exactly go as I had planned. I was kinda hoping she would beg for my forgiveness or something. Instead she didn't give a shit.
What do I do when I'm depressed? I eat. I picked up the phone and dialed the number of the nearest Burger King. Hey, they were sponsoring us. If I told them who I was, I could definitely have them deliver some food over here.
"Burger King," came the voice of a girl on the other end.
"Hi this is Nick Carter, and I need some-"
"Who did you say you were?"
"Um Nick Carter, and I need some-"
"You expect me to believe you're Nick Carter?" the girl laughed.
"Yeah I do, because I am him! Now please have some food delivered to me. My address is-"
"Who the hell do you think you are? Anyone can call in and pretend they're a Backstreet Boy. And besides, even if you WERE Nick Carter, we don't deliver. So you can get your lazy ass over here and get your own food."
"Excuse me Miss, but do you know who you're talking to?!" I snapped, angrily.
"Yep, I'm talking to some bum who's walking the streets of Tampa pretending to be Nick Carter," she replied dryly.
"Listen lady, I am in NO mood for this shit. So please just bring me some food!" I shouted, pounding my fist on the table.
"Oh getting violent now, aren't we?"
"PLEASE JUST SHUT THE HELL UP AND BRING ME SOME FOOD!" I shrieked. I heard a faint click on the other end, and after awhile of dead silence... my stupid mind realized she had hung up on me.
"Bitch." I shouted into the phone, slamming it down against the receiver.
"Can't a guy get some food when he's hungry?" I pleaded, rifling through my freezer in hopes of finding some Elios pizza. Typical: there was nothing.
"Nick, let me in dude!" I heard Brian shout from outside.
"You have food?" I replied, standing in the doorway. He wasn't getting in unless he had some food.
"Huh? I didn't bring any food with me big boy. Sorry," he laughed, pushing his way through.
"Dammit, I am so freaking hungry and I can't even get some food," I complained, throwing myself onto the couch.
"Jeez Nick, you are hungry all the time. No wonder there's never any food in this house. By the way, your ass is looking rather huge these days. Better cut down on the junk food."
"Okay that was low. And why the hell are you looking at my ass? If you have nothing useful to say, then why are you here?" I snapped, motioning towards the door.
"What's up your ass Carter?"
"What do you think?"
"Ahhh I know... Colleen. Yes well you have to learn how to be more like me man. I haven't thought about her for quite awhile."
"Oh bullshit."
"Yeah I know. I gotta learn how to lie," he mumbled, studying his hands.
"Oh I know that perfect little angel Brian is gonna have a hard time lying."
"Shut up dude," he whined, "I can lie."
"Prove it!" I retorted.
A mischevious smile crossed his face, "Try me."
"Hmmm Mr. Littrell... I think this calls for a little bet."
