Koss 2-way MTM driver upgrade

Upgraded Koss M105+ MTM's (Dual Vifa/JBL 4.5" midbass and an Audax 1" Neo tweet), but this time they sit atop of a dual 8" Access 8DB (treated paper/1"VC) woofer cab with rear firing 4" dia. x 6" port . No final measurements just yet... but so far, the punch, imaging and resolution of this setup definately exceeded my expectations. The Behringer DCX2496 is being used here, with a Marantz SR6200 providing the six required channels of (equal) power. To the right is one of the "old faithful" DIY Focal three-way towers, and two rather large (120 litre) Focal 12V726S woofer cabinets in the background. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Below: Here is one Koss M105+ before I retrofitted both with two 12 Ohm Vifa made (for JBL) midbass drivers and Vifa Neodymium tweets. Gotta love buyouts at PartsExpress. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Below: A cheap and dirty little adapter flange to fit the new Audax tweet into the M105 cabinet. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Below: How nice those M105+ speakers now look sitting proudly atop a 12V726S Focal woofer awaiting digital tri-amping... ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Below: PE supplied CLIO graph. This should be easy. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Below: Here is how the Vifa's in a MTM config actually measured using ETF. This is not going to be so easy! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Below: Picked 200Hz and 3.5khz with 24dB/Oct. LR filters just to see how things summed up where I wanted to cross them over. Not good. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Below: The Behringer strikes again - I had to settle for really steep (8th octave LR) slopes to cut off the insanity of the midbass below 450Hz and above 2.2K. After time alignment and some equalization, VOILA! Not bad. But I would not want to build a passive crossover using these drivers. Buyouts are sometimes cheap for a reason! How do they sound? Quite good - considering the cost - but not quite as much resolution as my Focal 3 way towers. Whaddya want for $27 US a side?? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
