Britney Spears's U.S. tour kicks off Wednesday (October 31) at the MCI Center in Washington D.C. Spears told us that she's hoping her fans will listen carefully to the lyrics of the songs from her upcoming album Britney, due out November 6: "I mean, this is going to be my third tour to do. I just want them to see me in a different light that they've never seen me in before. This music that I'm singing right now is such a reflection of me and who I am, and hopefully they'll come to the show and get a really good idea of who I really am, and just come and be inspired, and just have a lot of fun."
O-Town, the stars of MTV's Making The Band, will join Spears on the road. "We're real excited to be on a tour with Britney," said O-Town singer Dan Miller. I think it's a chance for us to go out there and show people how much talent we really have."
What does O-Town have in-store for its fans? Miller told us that several of the group members will play guitar, as they do in the music video for their latest single, "We Fit Together." "Well you know what, we try to switch it up a little bit--you'd be surprised. And it's only going to expand more, but we try to play some of our own instruments. Jacob and Ashley do the guitar thing. We just bring a lot of energy because our songs aren't really the typical songs you'd expect from a group like us--I guess in some ways."
Miller added that O-Town's three main goals while on tour with Spears are to be real, to be raw, and to be original: "We try not to do everything that's been done. I mean there are elements that are the same, but we try to just switch it up a little bit. It's just a lot of energy. More raw then anything you have ever seen. We go on stage in tee-shirts and jeans pretty much. There's no glamour--no sparkles."
The Britney Spears U.S. tour is scheduled to wrap up in Miami on December 19. One dollar from each ticket sold from Spears' tour will benefit the children of the police and firefighters that were victims of the September 11 attacks.
