“They’re getting married, and she’s got a son who’s 19, and he’s gonna be my step-brother!” Kayla exclaimed to her best friend, Becky Sanders, who was in Brazil at the moment.
“Wow.” She said, “Did he tell you the guy’s name?” Becky asked.
“No,” She said back.
“Oh.”
“So, how’s Brazil?”
“Great!” Becky said. She started talking about everything. After 10 more minutes, the girls hung up. Kayla had gotten over the shock. She knew that Lynn was nice, according to her dad, and if she was so good, that he asked for her hand, she must be REALLY good! Kayla lay down on her bed. She thought about her to-be step-brother. Would he be cute? Would they get along? A lot of questions ran through her mind, but she was interrupted by the sound of the phone ringing.
“Hello?” She asked.
“Hi,” A woman answered, “This is Lynn. Kayla, honey is that you?” Kayla was a little annoyed she had called her honey, but pushed it away, and said, “Yes, this is she. Hi Lynn.”
“Is your father home?” she asked.
“No, sorry, he’s at work. Can I have him call you back?”
“Sure. Thanks.” She said.
“Oh yeah, congratulations on the wedding,” Kayla added testily.
“Thanks sweetie, now see you later!” Lynn said, not noticing Kayla’s voice, or she chose to ignore it.
“Bye” Kayla hung up. Lynn didn’t seem so bad. ‘Don’t judge someone on a phone conversation, Kay!’ her brain screamed.
