Chapter Four

“What the heck?” Kelly mumbled as Chris came running across the yard.

“It’s alive!!” He yelled, much to everyone’s surprise.

“What’s alive?” I asked.

“The... the...” he gasped for breath from running. “The dolls!”

I started to laugh, the other three soon laughing uncontrollably. Two more people came running across the yard, which was JC and Joey.

“He’s right!” JC exclaimed.

“JC, man, you need sleep. Your too sensible for this... listen... is it the life size doll that you are talking about?” I asked.

“Yeah... it was moving and looking at us!” Joey continued.

I tried to keep from laughing. “Okay, guys, listen... the doll is electric. If it’s plugged up, it moves and seems real, but it’s not. It’s okay... trust me... the dolls are not alive.”

“That’s stupid! Why do you have a freakin’ thing like that for? You could scare the crap out of someone!” Chris exclaimed.

“Only out of people like you Chris,” I said with a smile.

The door to the trailer soon opened and my mom stepped out. “Hey everyone. Alex, your grandpa called. He said that if they don’t get back over there, he’s going to lock the door and they’ll have to sleep outside with the cows.”

“Okay... I’m going now that I know the dolls won’t get us,” Chris said, turning and running back to the other house.

“What’s he talking about?” My mom asked.

“It doesn’t matter.” She went back inside, shaking her head. “Guys, you better get back.”

“Yeah, your right... we don’t want to have to sleep with the cows,” JC said as he walked off the porch and across the yard, following Chris, Joey behind him.

Justin slid his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to him. “Good night,” He whispered, pressing his lips against mine for a second.

“Good night,” I mumbled, holding him tighter. Kelly pushed past me and went into the house, leaving Justin and I alone on the porch. Lance had already started walking back to my grandparents house.

“I love you,” He said softly, kissing me once more.

“Love you,” I said, finally pulling myself away from him. I backed up and went through the door.

I went to my room and found Kelly sitting on my beanbag chair. I flopped backwards on my bed. “What the heck?” Kelly suddenly said. She reached under the chair and pulled out a black three ring binder. “Your little black book?” She asked with a smile.

“No... just look.”

She opened the notebook to find it was filled with pictures of celebrities. She continued flipping through it and suddenly stopped. “Do you have any music?”

“Yeah... just turn the cd player on.” She reached over and turned it on.

“What is it?”

“Just listen,” I answered.

The sound of a siren and news report filled the room. “Yeah! 98 Degrees!” Kelly exclaimed. She kept going through the notebook and stopped again. “Nice picture of Nick Carter...”

“I was supposed to send that to you awhile ago...”

“And you didn’t why?”

“Well, you and Lance got together, and I wasn’t sure if it would be a good idea...” I said with a smile. Kelly just shrugged. She threw the notebook down and leaned her head back as the two of us sat and listened to the cd.

“I love this song...” I mumbled as ‘Because Of You’ came on. When the chorus started, I sat straight up on the bed. “Kelly, do you hear that?” I whispered.

She nodded. “What is... it?” I listened closer, hearing the little noise hitting the glass.

I listened carefully before heading to the window and opening it. The second the window was up, something small hit me in the forehead. “Ouch!!!!” I yelled.

“Oops...”

“What the....?!”

“Shhh!!!” Kelly silenced me.

“Dangit!!” I put my hand to my forehead and looked out the window. Justin and Lance were standing below the window. Lance had something in his hand. “Who threw that?” I asked, referring to the small rock that had hit me in the head.

“He did!” Justin exclaimed, pointing to Lance.

“Kelly! Can’t you control your boy toy?” I asked. I looked back at her and she shrugged. She then joined me at the window. Justin approached and I climbed out the window. The two of us and Lance went and stood on the porch. We didn’t know if Kelly would join us, but knowing her, she would. Seconds later, she walked out the front door.

“Kelly,” I whined. “Where’s your sense of adventure? Why didn’t you climb out the window?”

“Oh gee... I think I possibly forgot to pack it...” She sarcastically answered, going over the Lance and hugging him.

“What are you two doing here anyway?” I asked.

“We wanted a last good-bye,” Justin answered her.

“Oh...” I slowly said, turning to face Justin. I lifted my lips to his and was caught up in the moment. “Now... I’m not usually one to obey the rules, but my grandpa has something against you guys already, so I don’t want to make him mad... you guys really should get back over there... now...”

Justin went down from the porch as I went and stood in the doorway, waiting for Kelly. Lance kissed her, then whispered something in her ear, causing the both of them to erupt into laughter. Kelly stepped away from him and went past me into the house. Justin turned and I blew him a last kiss.

I found Kelly in my room looking at the black notebook again and softly singing along with ‘True To Your Heart.’ I grabbed some clothes to sleep in and went to the bathroom to change. As soon as I re-entered my room, the phone rang. Kelly reached over and picked it up. “Hello?” She didn’t say anything for a second before sarcastically saying, “What do you think? She just climbed out a window for you and you watched her come in here.”

“Kelly, give me the phone,” I said, leaping across the room and grabbing the phone from her hand. “Hello?”

“Hey,” Justin’s voice came through the phone.

“Hi,” I said, leaning back against my pillows. Justin and I talked for a while while Kelly also went and changed her clothes for bed. After she changed, she came back into the room and sat down across the room.

“What are you wearing?” Justin suddenly asked.

“Clothes.”

“What kind?”

“Soft ones.”

“Smart alleck.”

“I know...”

“So...”

“So what?”

“What are you wearing?”

“Clothes.”

“Your avoiding my question.”

“Yeah....”

“I bet your wearing mine, aren’t you?”

“Um....” I didn’t answer, I could only laugh. I held the phone out to Kelly because I was laughing too hard to talk.

“Hello?” Kelly said into the phone. “Okay.... she’s wearing a really big Nike t-shirt and black shorts.” She paused. “All right...” She handed the phone back to me.

“You are! Your wearing my clothes!” Justin exclaimed.

“So?” I asked with a smile. All of a sudden, I was beaned in the back of the head with a beanie baby.

“I wanna talk!” Kelly exclaimed, preparing to throw another beanie baby.

“No,” I said, covering the mouthpiece. She threw it. I ducked and the baby hit the wall. “Fine, go get the other phone.”

Kelly happily jumped up and ran out of the room. There was a click and she was on the line. “Hi!”

“Hi Kelly,” Justin and I said dejectedly.

“So, Justin... aren’t you going to ask what I’m wearing?” She asked.

“I wasn’t planning on it...”

“Ask!”

“Kelly, what are you wearing?

“I am wearing purple camouflage pajamas... shorts and tank top.”

“Interesting.”

“It’s really cute.”

“I’ll bet....”

“Justin... get Lance on the phone... NOW....” I said.

“Okay,” Justin said, setting the phone down.

“Thanks Kelly. I never interrupt you and Lance.... Justin’s mine... give us time together...”

“Thank you...” Kelly said, sounding much like a little kid.

There was a click on the other end and Justin and Lance both said, “Hey babe.” I almost had to laugh. Did they practice that or what?

“Hey sweets,” I answered Justin, although I didn’t make that clear.

“I wasn’t talking to you,” Lance said.

“No kidding,” I sarcastically commented.

“Did you miss me?” Justin asked.

“Tons. What about me?” Kelly said.

“Kelly! Aren’t you even going to say hi to me?” Lance asked.

“Oh... yeah! Hi Lance!” With that, those two started talking. I swear, they could talk anytime, anywhere. Justin and I exchanged a few words, but nothing big.

“So, what’s wrong?” I asked Justin.

“Nothing. What’s the matter with you?” Lance answered me.

“I’m fine. Are you okay?” Justin said, trying to ignore Lance.

“Wonderful,” Kelly replied.

“This is so not working!” I exclaimed.

“Well... why don’t you come over? I’ll let you in,” Justin said.

“Great! I’ll be there in a just a minute!” Kelly exclaimed.

“Kelly!” Justin, Lance, and I all exclaimed together.

“Sorry,” she mumbled.

“I’ll be there in just a second,” I told Justin, hanging up the phone. I glanced out my window, seeing how it had begun to rain within the short time that we had been inside the house. I threw some extra clothes in a Nike backpack and went to the living room, only to find Kelly sprawled out on the couch still on the phone with Lance. I waited until she noticed me. When she looked up, I said, “I hope your happy.”

“I am...” She said, a sweet smile on her face.

I rolled my eyes. My sarcasm was lost on her. I went and carefully opened the door, as to not wake my mom up, then, I stepped out of the trailer and into the rain.
