JC sighed and leaned his head against the cool glass of the bus window as they traveled further and further away from Orlando, Florida. It was something he and the others had done time and time again, leaving home that is, but this time, the loneliness of the situation cut like a knife. He yawned and closed his eyes, being exhausted but unable to sleep, which was a once in a lifetime occurrence for JC.
It wasn’t leaving home, per sey, that was the kicker. It was what he was leaving behind at home. Lance’s girlfriend, Kelly, and two of her friends, Alex (Justin’s girlfriend) and Briley, were in Orlando for vacation. It wasn’t Kelly, it wasn’t Alex, but it was Briley. He had met her before, but this time, he was seeing her in a whole new light. The first time he had met her, she had just seemed like a stupid everyday fan that made him thankful that they had security.
That was before the night of Kelly’s accident. They were at a club and she got hurt, her and Lance leaving everyone to fend for themselves, with no go between’s. Somehow, he had gotten stuck driving her back to the hotel and it was then... it was then that he was sure his fate had been sealed. He had never quite met anyone like her before and he just knew he would never find anyone like her ever again.
However, now, it was a series of mixed feelings over what he thought about her. She was still the ditz that he knew and remembered, but now... more and more emotions were coming into play. He just couldn’t get enough of this woman... or could he? Was he being nice to her for his friends sake, or was it something deeper? He just couldn’t figure out what was going on in his head or his heart.
He jumped at the sound of footsteps coming into the back lounge. He looked up to see Lance standing in the doorway with his arms crossed. A small smile was playing at the corners of his mouth. “I thought you didn’t like Briley.”
JC’s head shot up and he stuttered in attempt to defend himself. “I don’t... I mean, I don’t know.”
Lance smiled before crossing the room to take a seat next to his friend. “JC, man, can I offer you some advice that I was given I started with Kelly?” JC solemnly nodded. “First, you do know I had doubts about her, right?”
“No clue.”
“Well, I did. I wasn’t sure if it was what I wanted. Hell, I didn’t even know her. But, I gave it a chance. I had this gut feeling that if I didn’t, I’d be missing out on something great. And I was right. Oddly enough, it was Joey who gave me the best advice that I could have received over her.”
“And that is?” JC asked with a slightly raised eyebrow.
“Joey told me to look in my heart and go with what couldn’t be said.”
JC started at Lance blankly for a moment. “What are you talking about?”
Lance sighed as he stood up. “Let’s try this.” He went to the stereo that sat bolted to a shelf and slipped a CD in and pressed play. “Just listen to the words. What I’m trying to say should be clear.” JC bit his lip and listened for the meaning to what Lance was talking about.
The smile on your face
Let's me know that you need me
There’s a truth in your eyes
Saying you’ll never leave me
The touch of your hand
Says you’ll catch me whenever I fall
You say it best
When you say nothing at all
All day long I can hear people talking about love
But when you hold me near you drown out the crowd
Try as they may they can never define
What’s been said between your heart and mine
The smile on your face
Let’s me know that you need me
There’s a truth in your eyes
Saying you’ll never leave me
The touch of your hand
Says you’ll catch me whenever I fall
You say it best
When you say nothing at all
JC looked up into his friend’s eyes. “What your saying is that I need to ignore everything that has been said or that I want to say and to go with what is inside.”
“You got it,” Lance whispered.
“But what if-” JC began.
“No what if’s. JC, this is going to sound extremely corny, I know, but I can feel this... you need to give her a chance. You’ll regret it if you don’t.”
