When I See You Smile - chapter 2
Chapter Two: Ashley
Wow! Myra was beautiful...I sat next to her in the booth. I couldn’t help but notice how cute her nervous/ shy look was (at least that’s what I thought it was). Her amazing yellow-green eyes were wide and filled with happiness and she bit her lip and she was just...adorable.
“Ashley? Earth to Ashley Parker Angel.” She said as she tapped me lightly on the shoulder. “Didja hear me?”
“No...sorry. Guess I spaced.” I answered honestly.
“Well, anyway space cadet- do you mind hangin’ with me? Those two over there wanna spend some quality time together.” This was all coming along perfectly!
“That’d be fine. Hey, do you gotta feeling that their setting us up?” I asked. Her eyes glanced up at Dan and Jessica who were deep into their own conversation and then she smiled at me.
“I so think so Mr. Angel. I just hope we don’t disappoint ‘em.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing.” She snapped quickly as she bit her lower lip. Damn, that made her look so sexy and innocent.
“It didn’t sound like a nothing, Myra. What, do ya want me? Do I make you horny?” She busted out laughing and grabbed my hand.
“Let’s get outta here. They're kinda sickening.”
“You thought it was cute. They are in love aren’t they?” I quipped as we left McDonald’s. she punched me on the arm. “Hey what’s that about?” I winced in fake pain.
“Oh, nothing- you just better watch it Ash. Wanna go to Sam Goody? I gotta get the 2Ge+her CD.”
“Sure, hotstuff.” I answered. Hey, I was a flirt and she sure didn’t mind. She smiled, punched me again, and grabbed my hand. “I see you’re the affectionate type?”
“What’s that supposed to mean? I only like you so of course I’m gonna wanna hold your hand. Is that a problem?” I was shocked at her honest answer. I didn’t think she’d be the straight to the point kind of girl.
“I’d hold you hand all day and forever if I could.” I responded as we walked to Sam Goody in silence. We walked by the listening booth and she pulled me into one. “What, now you wanna make-out with me?”
“Chill, speed demon. This is my song. ‘When I See You Smile’ by Uncle Sam. She looked really happy. “Wanna hear?”
“Sure. Isn’t this song a few years old?” I asked.
“Yeah, but I still love it.” The music filled my ears. It was a beautiful song and maybe someday it could mean something to us. The song was over and she was standing there with a hopeful look on her face. “Ya like?”
“Of course. Anything you like, I like. It was beautiful just like you.” The words came out before I could think about what I was saying.
“Aww…you sweetheart. I’m gonna go find my CD and we can get outta here.”
“Okay.” I turned away for two seconds and when I looked back she was by the counter but there was some guy getting a little too close to her. They were talking but she didn’t looked too pleased. I decided to go closer so I could at least hear them to make sure he wasn’t gonna hurt her. I got closer but I wasn’t liking what I was hearing.
“Come on, sexy- you know this is what you want.” He said as he started backing her up against the glass wall.
“No sorry, I already got what I want: not you. So excuse me.” She replied as she pushed him away. He grabbed her arm. It was my time to take action after I heard him again.
“You little bitch! You know I am what you want. Quit playing games your whore!” He shouted as he squeezed her close to him. I came from behind him.
“Look, will you please leave my girl alone before I have to get rid of you?” I said calmly but he wasn’t gonna let go of her. Her eyes were filled with fear and it was killing me.
“What…this pansy is what you want? Come on baby girl…it’s me.” I went around to Myra and pulled her outta his grip. She just stood next to me.
“Look, I said to leave my girl alone so do it damn it! Get outta here now before I really have to make a scene!” I yelled. People were staring but I didn’t care.
“Okay, I get it., I’m gone. But have fun with your hoe bag of a girlfriend. You’re with her because she gives you right?”
“Just leave, you asshole.” He gave me the finger but then left.Myra ran up to me and gave me a hug. She started to cry immediately.
“Thank you so much, Ash. He was really scaring me.” I lifted her chin so I could look her in the eyes.
“You don’t have to thank me, okay? I did it cuz I care. I should be apologizing for not coming with you in the first place. Then he wouldn’t have touched you.”
“It’s not your fault. But thanks; you deserve at least that much. God, I was scared he’d…he’d do something.” She broke down again and I wrapped my arms around her. It felt right with her there.
“I know you were afraid, I know. But he left and it’s over. I’m with you now. Nothing will happen. Let’s find the other two and get outta here.”
“I’d like that.” I kissed her on the forehead. She took my hand again as we went in search of Dan and Jessica.
