Chapter One

Walking into the two-bedroom apartment that Parker occupied the young brunette let out an exhausted sigh. “I don’t know where the station expects me to find a new intern in two weeks.”

Feeling the stress of her workday the petite woman rubbed her temples and plodded into the kitchen. Opening the freezer she was happy to find a pint on Cookie Dough Ice Cream. “Just what the doctor ordered.” Parker smiled to herself while grabbing the pint and retrieving a spoon from the drawer.

Making her way into the cozy living room she fell into the plush blue sofa and opened the ice cream. Dipping her spoon in and getting a generous helping she brought the spoon to her mouth at the same time her cell phone let out a high pitched ring. “This better be important.” Parker growled, placing the spoon into the container and putting it onto the table.

Noticing the name “Bear” on her caller ID her hazel eyes lit up. Pressing the talk button she sat in silence.

The person on the other end of the line breathed heavily into the phone before screeching, “don’t you know how to say hello!?”

Parker giggled. “Nope. What can I do for you Eric?”

“I got in a bit of trouble.” The man on the other line said, his voice becoming serious.

“Don’t tell me I have to bail you out or something.”

Giving a haughty laugh Parker’s best friend replied with sarcasm. “Do you actually think I would call YOU if I needed to be bailed out? I have a great lawyer for things like that.”

“Then what’s the trouble? I’m not in the mood for twenty questions.” Parker snapped, cringing afterwards. “Sorry, it’s been a bad day.”

“It’s about to get better.”

“How’s that?” She asked, arching an eyebrow.

“You just got yourself a new roommate. See, I was a little late on rent the last few months and I forgot to pay this months utilities so most of my basic needs are shut off. I’m sick of my neighbors and I need a change of scenery. I know you just lost Emily cause the bitch HAD to go and get married and you’re looking for someone to take over, the extra bedroom and help out with rent. Besides, I’m a guy, so it’s like a built in security system.” Eric spoke quickly hoping to make his point that he would be the perfect candidate for Parker’s new roommate.

As Parker let her friends words sink in she reached for the ice cream and indulged in a mouthful. Chewing thoughtfully she spoke with hesitation. “How do I know you’ll pay your half of rent and utilities if I let you move in?”

“I knew that was coming,” the male groaned. “I’m evicted, Parks, I NEED to crash at your place. If I don’t my parents will know I can’t live on my own and I’ll never hear the end of it.”

“That doesn’t answer the question.”

“I get the chance to live with the only girl I can tolerate… I think I’ll find a way to make ends meet.” The tone in Eric’s voice begged for a chance.

Giving in Parker lay down on the couch and rubbed her temples once again. “I better not regret this. Tell the guys it’s moving day tomorrow.”

“THANK YOU BABE! You won’t regret this.”

The two friends hung up and Parker laughed to herself. “Life just keeps getting interesting.”

A few hours passed and Parker woke up to find herself sprawled out on the couch, the ice cream from earlier melted. Taking the carton into the kitchen she threw it away in the trash before turning out the lights and going towards her room.

In the hallway she stopped by the room that would soon be inhabited by Eric. “Who would have thought that moving here from Detroit two years ago would change my life so much.” She thought with a smile.

Parker had graduated from Michigan State with the dreams of becoming a radio DJ. Now she had the job that most people would kill for, the Kiis morning show. It was through her job that she befriended the boys of No Authority. Although she was chummy with all of them, it was Eric whom she always shared a special bond with.

A smile permanently stuck on her face Parker skipped down the rest of the short hallway to her own room. She changed out of her work clothes into a pair of comfortable pajamas before crawling into bed. Her eyes grew heavy and soon Parker was fast asleep.
