Courtney sat straight up in bed.
“What hell…” she got out of bed, grabbed her robe and started down the stairs. She smiled at the sight in the kitchen.
“Hey sleepy!” he smiled at her. “Josh” she said groggily. “What are you doing here?” “Well, that’s a nice way to great me… you’re best friend.” He laughed, pulling out the chair for her. She smiled. “Thanks.” She said. “How’d you get in here anyway?” “My key, silly.” He answered.
“Right.” Courtney smiled.

Courtney looked at the spread prepared by Josh.
“When did you learn to cook?” she asked questionably. Josh laughed. “Who said I could cook?” “That’s reassuring… maybe I’ll just have cereal.” Courtney laughed. “You will not! I slaved over this stove all morning…” he laughed back at her. As Josh sat down at the table, Courtney smiled. “What’s the grin for?” he asked. “You.” She said. “I’m just really glad you’re here.” He smiled and nodded. “Me too, Court. Me too.”

Dakota’s eyes fluttered open to the clock on her nightstand. 9:00. Why the hell was Courtney up? And who on God’s green earth was she talking to? She swung her legs to the side of the bed and sat up. No use in trying to sleep. She started for the stairs and skipped on down them. For some un-apparent reason she was in an unbeatable good mood. She reached the bottom step, gazing into the kitchen.

“Morning, D!” Courtney smiled. “Look, Josh made breakfast!” JC turned around and looked at Dakota.
She smiled. “I see that.” She laughed at the array of food on the table. Suddenly, Dakota was very aware of the fact that she had no robe on, and was only wearing a pair of old boxers and a tank.

“So… you stayed here last night?” JC asked while Dakota sat in the seat next to him. Dakota looked at Courtney, confused. “Last night, and every night before that…” Dakota said simply. JC looked across the table to Courtney who offered up no explanation, despite either of their looks. “You live here?” he asked, surprised.
“For almost two years… right Court?” Courtney nodded and JC laughed. “What’s so funny?” Dakota asked, obviously not clued in the information Courtney and Josh shared. “I, um… I used to live here.” He confessed.

Dakota’s eyes widened and she laughed. “Are you serious?”
“Oh yeah. Court and I lived together for awhile while my parents were still up in DC and I needed a place down here. I used to get down a lot more often to crash here a couple of nights. But I guess that hasn’t happened for awhile.” He smiled. “You can say that again” Courtney finally joined in. JC looked over at her beaming face.
“Sorry Court. It won’t be so long between visits again… I promise.” He smiled. Courtney laughed. Of course it wouldn’t. He’d met Dakota. She figured he’d be back as soon and as much as he possibly could.

The three of them finished off breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen between exchanging old stories. “Why don’t you two grab some stuff, and then we can all head over the J’s together. The girls agreed and raced up the stairs, laughing all the while. Dakota was grabbing some stuff together when Courtney entered her room.

“You’re not mad that I didn’t tell you he lived here, are you?” she asked. Dakota smiled. “Of course not. But you could’ve told me, ya know.” “True. But what would’ve been the fun in that. The looks on your faces were priceless!” she laughed. “You’re too much girl… just too much.” Dakota said, shaking her head.

Courtney turned to leave the room and grab some stuff of her own. Once at the doorway, she turned. “Hey, D.” she said, smiling devilishly. “Yeah Court?” she said, without lifting her head. “Just think. You’ve technically already slept in his bed.” She laughed. Dakota looked up, shocked at the words that just left her friend’s mouth.
“AH! You brat!” she yelled playfully, while throwing a stuffed animal, just as Courtney dodged it and ran into her own room, shutting the door behind her.
