Chapter 25

One Month Later

Dakota sat herself down on JC's lap, snuggling deeper into his arms. “Open mine, Court!” Justin squealed from the floor. Courtney’s birthday had brought everyone into their living room for a cozy little party. No frills. Only friends and good times; all the important things in one room.

Dakota lined the cake with candles. She admired her work as two arms hugged her from behind. “Lookin’ good” he whispered. “Yes it does, doesn’t it?” she said. “I wasn’t talking about the cake” he said, kissing her neck lightly. She turned around in her arms, bringing them face to face. “Joshua Chasez! Control yourself!” she said, kissing the tip of his nose. “I can’t! Don’t you see what you do to me?!” he smiled. She laughed. She captured his lips with her own, singing “Happy Birthday” just fell to second priority.

“D!” Courtney yelled to the back. “Sasha and her team just pulled up!” Dakota spent the last hour just sitting in the middle of the studio floor. Courtney peaked in the door. “You ok, D?” she asked. “Yeah. I just can’t believe I won’t be coming in here everyday anymore.” She cried. Courtney took a seat next to Dakota on a floor. “I know.” Courtney looked around, searching around the room that had become like second home to both of them. “But D,” she said snapping into reality, “you’re moving on to great things!” Dakota smiled, amid her tears. “I mean, you leave to tour with Britney. That’s something, girl! Look how far you’ve come.” Dakota thought about it. It was true. Dancing had done her well. From being on tour years ago, to this place, to yes, touring with the Britney Spears as head choreographer. Damn, life was good.

The girls handed over a set of keys and a few last minute instructions to Sasha. Classes would be taught once again, but the room would always be open for when Dakota wanted it. She still owned the building after all. The two girls started to walk towards home. It was too nice of a day to drive.

“You leave tomorrow?” Dakota asked. Courtney smiled. “Yep. New York, here I come!” Dakota smiled at her friend’s excitement. “Can I get your autograph now, or do I have to wait until you’re first single goes #1?” Dakota said, facing her. Courtney laughed. “I still can’t believe it. I’m recording a CD! How cool is this?” she asked. Dakota nodded. “Pretty damn cool, Court. Pretty damn cool. Let’s just make sure that I choreograph that first video of yours.” She said. Courtney smiled. “As if there’d be anyone else!”

Courtney and Lance walked into the airport hand in hand. Lance as her manager had its perks. Like him being able to travel with her, just to name one of them. Of course dating Lance had its perks too. Neither of them could believe it took them as long as it did to hook up. But now that they were together, they didn’t plan on wasting any more time.

“Well,” he sighed, “Josh threatened my life if I let you outta my sight” Lance laughed, once seated on the plane. Courtney laughed. “That’s my Josh, overprotective to a tee. I’m sure Dakota’s made him forget about the fact I’ll be hundreds of miles away.” She smiled. “Doubtful, Court. Doubtful.” he said. “Never-the-less, it’s officially my job to keep an eye on you.” He finished, raising his eyebrows. “Oh, is that right, Mr. Bass?” she questioned, laughing. She stopped and smiled. Her lips met his and then they parted. “Lucky me.” She said. “Lucky me.”

JC flopped onto the couch, grabbing the remote. “D, you comin’?” he yelled into the kitchen. “Yep. I’m here” she said appearing aside of him, armed with chips, popcorn and beer. “Ahh… that’s my girl.” He smiled, kissing her cheek. She smiled at him. “Yes I am.” She was convinced Josh was good for her. Good for her heart, good for her mind… the complete package. She hadn’t felt this way for someone in a very long time. Leave it to the pop star to steal her heart. Josh’s arms closed around her, bringing her back into his chest. She closed her eyes, as if in a dream. Her dream of being happy once again, had become a reality in such a short time. Only time would tell the extent of her dreams coming true. Any time, with Josh, was time well spent.

The End.
