“Dakota!” Courtney yelled up the stairs, “can you come down her for a minute?” Dakota ran down the stairs toothbrush in hand, her mouth full of toothpaste. “Wha…” she tried to speak. “I just came from Josh’s…” she started. Dakota rolled her eyes. “Can I spit before we get into this?” she asked. Courtney nodded and headed into the kitchen to grab some water. In due time Dakota returned down and took a seat in and the opposite side of the table from Courtney. “Is this going to be a lecture?” Dakota asked lightly. Courtney laughed. “Feeling guilty are we?” she said. Dakota stood up, ready to walk away. “Court, I didn’t do anything wrong.” She defended. “D, I didn’t say you did. You’re the one who jumped to the conclusion I was mad” Courtney said. “And you’re not?” Dakota wondered aloud. “I’m not. I’m just worried about him. He falls for girls hard and I don’t wanna see him hurt.”

Dakota was starting to get the impression that dating Courtney’s best friend would never be a good idea. And forever more Josh would always be Courtney’s best friend, first and foremost.

“I know where you’re coming from, Court, I do. I know you care about him. But just because he’s kissed me two times doesn’t give him claim over me.” Dakota told her. “You’re right. Just don’t string him along. And wait a minute, he kissed you?! You didn’t tell me that!” Courtney said. “Yes he did. But back to the point… I’m not stringing him along! I’ve never said anything to imply that I wanted a relationship!” Dakota said firmly. “Fine. Fine. Relationship. Nada. Got it.” Courtney smiled. “Now tell me about this kiss.”

“Cut!” yelled Wayne.
Dakota stood behind the monitor watching the replay of the dance sequence. “Looks good to me” she felt a whisper in her ear. She smiled, turning around. “Well, well, well. Josh Chasez, what are you doing all the way out here?” she said. He laughed. “You’re in my thinking spot. Plus, I wanted to ask you to lunch.” Dakota smiled. “I’d love to, we should be wrapping up pretty soon. Can you hang around for a bit?” she asked. He smiled. “Of course.”

And hour later, “Let’s wrap up for lunch” Wayne yelled. He turned to JC. “Well, man it was nice seeing you again. I hear you got plans with the ‘dance-wiz’ here” Wayne smiled, patting Dakota on the back. Dakota laughed. “Yeah,” JC smiled “I think we’re gonna try to steal her for our next video. But meanwhile, I think I’ll just steal her for lunch.”

She unlocked the front door, it was later than usual. 9 O’clock. She walked into the living room seeing Lance and Courtney curled up together on the couch. “Hey, hun. Long day, huh?” Courtney asked. “You have no idea. It’s been like 15 hours. Anyway, I wanna hop in the shower. Josh and I are going out to dinner.” Dakota said, half way up the stairs.

Courtney glanced at Lance, and in one motion followed Dakota upstairs. “D…” she started. “In here!” Dakota yelled from the bathroom. Courtney waited in Dakota’s room a few minutes when Dakota emerged. “D, what are you doing?” Courtney sighed. Dakota looked at her questionably. “Going out to dinner.” She answered. “I mean why are you going?” Dakota smiled. “Relax Courtney. It’s just been a long day. Josh took me out to lunch, so I’m returning the favor.” Dakota sat next to Courtney. “I just wanna have a little fun tonight. Josh is fine. I’m fine. We’re fine. Please just stop worrying.”

Courtney did as Dakota asked, although not all her concerns were over. Josh was a big boy, he could handle himself. She just hoped he could handle Dakota.
