PROTEGE: Krystal
MENTOR: Kevin Richardson
HOW THEY HOOKED UP: Backstreet Boys producer Mook played music matchmaker after hearing Krystal perform in her hometown of Anderson, IN. WORKING RELATIONSHIP: Kevin and BSB signed Krystal as their first act on their label, KBNHA (that stands for Kevin, Brian, Nick, Howie, A.J.) and she's opening for their Black & Blue World Tour. They're looking out for their little sister big-time -- noogies included.
WHY THEY NEED A PROTEGE: Tired of his group being dissed for not playing instruments, he's living vicariously through piano-playing Krystal.
CLONE FACTOR (On a scale of 1-10): 2 -- They're five harmonizing, instrument-free guys; she's a multitalented singer (who jams on the drums and flute, in addition to piano). They DO share a love of pop ballads, but she spices them up with rock overtones.
HIT POTENTIAL (On a scale of 1-10): 9 -- Backstreet Boys are supporting her, and critics are praising her "angelic voice." She's poised to be the next Mariah Carey.
***NOTE: This is not the entire article. Other musicians/bands that were included on the Music Protege chart were D-12, Lil Bow Wow, Staind, Sunshine Anderson, City High, and Alien Ant Farm.
