Nick knocked timidly at the door. He was getting so fucking tired of doing this, all over that dumb-ass guy.
"Hey Darrell." He said to the girl who answered the door.
"Hey Nick. If you're looking for Sally you just missed her. You can come in though, she'll be right back." She told him opening the door. Nick smiled and walked in.
"I see she's still using your apartment." He laughed looking around at the mess of clothes that he recognised as Sally's.
"Yeah. It's ok though. The place is never empty when she's here." Darrell replied rolling her eyes.
"He's here then?" Nick asked.
"Yeah he's sleeping. She told him you guys had a fight but he didn't seem too bothered. You're not his favourite person." She added smiling. Nick grinned.
"I wonder why?" He laughed sarcastically. He looked Darrell up and down.
"You're getting too tall for your own good. What happened to that tiny little thing that Sally used to push around?" He laughed, Darrell's 5ft10" frame suprising him. He hadn't seen her for a few months because she had been away from home.
"She grew and got an attitude." Darrell laughed. She didn't know Nick very well. She just remembered him as the kid who used to live next door to her half sister in Florida before he moved when he was 10. He had never lost touch with Saly though, even though he was now part of a very sucessful singing group. Darrell knew that Sally missed him when he was away but all they ever seemed to do when he was home was fight. "So is it your turn to apologise?" She asked, remembering the rota.
"Yeah. Even though she started it." Nick sighed.
"She always starts it. It's coz she always has to be right." Darrell explained.
"You noticed that to, huh?" Nick asked smiling. The apartment door opened and Sally walked in carrying two brown paper bags she put them down on the counter and turned to Nick.
"So, you here to grovel and beg forgiveness?" She asked with a wicked smile.
"Nope I'm here to apologise but only coz it's my turn." Nick replied.
"Go on then." Sally prompted.
"Ok. I'm sorry I upset you. I didn't mean everything I said and I promise to at least try and pretend that I like him." Nick said. Darrell could tell from the way he said it that it wasn't the first time he had used those exact words.
"Only pretend. Can't you try and like him?" Sally asked.
"Hey, I can't work miracles. So am I forgiven or not?" He replied grinning.
"I guess so. How could I stay mad at you?" She replied hugging him. "Especially since I got the exact same lecture off my little sister the minute I walked through the door." Sally added, with a glance at Darrell.
"Who's not so little anymore." Nick reminded Sally laughing at her disgusted face.
"I know! Sickening isn't it. How am I supposed to push her around when she's 5 inches taller than me?" Sally asked. Nick shook his head.
"You haven't been able to push her around for years now." He told her.
"I know. It's not like I can even get her into trouble for things coz everyone thinks she's an angel and they never believe me. Even if it is true." Sally sighed. She turned to Darrell who was looking through the grocery bags.
"You only went out for milk." She reminded her older sister. Sally smiled.
"I bought you a chocolate bar." She said, fishing it out of one of the bags. and handing it to her.
"That was nice of you." Nick commented.
"It's only coz she let that fat oaf eat the one I was saving." Darrell explained whilst Sally looked sheepish.
"He's not fat." She defended her boyfriend.
"Well I'd love to stay and listen to you two argue but I only came to apologise and now I gotta go." Nick said, almost reluctantly.
"Do you have to? I've hardly seen you since you got home." Sally admonished.
"Yeah well we've both been busy and my mom and dad just moved back out here so I had to spend some time with them, I invited you to come." Nick reminded her.
"Ok, but we have to get together before you leave ok?" Sally said hugging him.
"Yeah ok. I'll call you tomorrow and we can sort something out ok?" Nick hugged her back.
"Ok." She sighed walking him to the door and seeing him out.
"I don't know why you don't go out with him. He's a lot nicer than fatso in there and he adores you." Darrell said as Sally walked back over to her.
"Date Nick? You've got to be kidding." Sally laughed.
"Why? He always seems really nice to me." Darrell replied.
"Coz he's just Nick." Sally replied screwing up her nose. "No matter how hard I try I'll always see him as the goofy kid that lived next door and he sees me the same way. We're practically brother and sister." Sally added.
"Yeah well you desserve better than Pete and like I said, Nick adores you." Darrell repeated.
"First of all Pete treats me great and I love him, secondly Nick loves me as a sister and thirdly if you think he's so great why don't you date him yourself?" Sally asked, beginning to get annoyed with her younger sisters attempts to get her to break up with Pete.
"All I'm saying is that you can do a lot better than Pete." Darrell defended.
"Yeah well don't. I don't want better than Pete, I want Pete. You should just stay out of my business." Sally snapped.
"Well it wouldn't be so hard if he didn't practically live at my apartment. I don't mind you being here, in fact I appreciate the company but did you ever think that I might not want you ramming your relationship in my face when I'm still trying to get over Robbie?" Darrell asked.
"I'm sorry. I didn't think. I'll get out of here as soon as I can." Sally said softly, suddenly feeling guilty that she had been so thoughtless.
"You don't have to leave. I don't want you to and I don't mind him staying here some of the time but I don't like the fact that he's been here all week and eaten everything yet he doesn't put any money towards the shopping. I want you to be happy Sally I really do and if being with him makes you happy that's great but I don't need it ramming down my throat especially when you know I don't like him." Darrell told her.
"Yeah ok. I'll talk to him about paying his way. He's going home later anyway." Sally replied.

Nick sighed as he opened the door and walked into his painfully empty house. At least tomorrow Aaron would be there. There definitely would not be the deafening silence that echoed through the house at the moment, when Aaron got there. Nick smiled at the thought of spending some time with his younger brother. That kid was growing up too fast and he was missing it all. He walked through into the den and saw that his answering machine was blinking. He pressed play and sank down into one of the large leather chairs switching on the television to see what was on the sport channels.
"Hey Nick. What's goin' on?" AJ's voice came out of the answering machine. Nick turned to look at it, he hadn't been expecting a call from any of the guys, they had only gotten away from each other for a few days and usually they all wanted time away from each other. "Look I know you're probably busy with your family moving back down there and catching up with Sally, how is she by the way? Sexy as ever?" AJ laughed wickedly and Nick had to smile. "Well like I was saying I know you're busy but I really need to talk to you about something, man. It's pretty important. Give me a call and we can arrange something ok? See ya bro." AJ hung up. The answering machine flicked to the next message.
"Hey Frack. It's Rok. How ya been?" Nick laughed at that. It was so like Brian, he had only seen him three days ago. "I've got some of your stuff in my case. I guess I can give it back you when I see you but if you realise something's missing then I've probably got it. Anyways I just thought I'd call coz Leigh's out but you're obviously not home. Talk to you soon." Brian clicked off and Nick looked suprised as the answering machine told him that he had another message. He's only been out for a couple of hours, how could he have missed all their calls.
"If it's Kevin or Howie then I'm gonna get seriously worried." He said aloud, not caring that no-one else was in the house with him.
"Hi honey it's mom. Aaron wanted me to call and check that he's still coming tomorrow. He's so excited about it. You'll have to arrange some time for Angel though, she misses you and I think you leave her out sometimes. I know you don't mean to, it's easy to forget that she's there sometimes. She's so quiet. Ok well I'll see you tomorrow when I bring him over. Love mom." Nick laughed, his mom sounded as though she was signing off a letter. The answer machine beeped to tell him that that was all his messages. He picked up the phone and dialled his moms number. Her answer phone clicked in after a few rings.
"Hi mom it's me. Of course Aaron's still coming tomorrow. I will spend sometime with Angel before I go. I already sorted something but it's a suprise. Ok gotta go." Nick hung up, he felt a little guilty for lying but not as guilty as he felt for leaving his youngest sister out so much. It wouldn't be too hard to sort something out he though smiling. He looked his watch and guessed that Leigh would be back now so he called AJ instead of Brian.
"Hello?" AJ's raspy voice answered.
"Hey Bone whassup?" Nick asked.
"Oh hey man. I really need to talk to you. Face to face." AJ said.
"Sounds serious. I've not been sacked or anything have I?" Nick laughed.
"No way man. We wouldn't sell any records without your blonde butt." AJ laughed.
"Well I'm glad to know you appreciate me. No, seriously what do you wanna talk to me about?" Nick asked.
"Umm, like I said, I'd rather not talk about it over the phone." AJ said awkwardly.
"Ok well when do you wanna meet up?" Nick asked. "Tomorrows not good for me coz I'm spending it with Aaron and the day after I'll be doing something with Sally." Nick added.
"Oh yeah? How is she? You two had another row yet?" AJ asked.
"Yeah we had one yesterday. It was my turn to apologise so I went round before. She's still staying at Darrell's." Nick replied.
"How's she? I saw her the other day on TRL. Looking incredibly sexy." AJ said, Nick could tell that he was grinning.
"Man, you have sex on the brain." Nick laughed.
"Nothing wrong with that. No seriously how is she? I mean her new album just knocked Britney off the top spot." AJ said.
"Yeah I know. It's really cool. Did you get a copy?" Nick asked.
"Yeah it's great. Brian's still rattling on about doing a duet with her." AJ laughed.
"I know but he's been like that ever since he realised I knew her which would have been five years ago when she released her first album. She seemed ok when I saw her earlier, she looked GREAT! She broke up with Robbie again though. Sally thinks it's for good this time but they've broken up for good at least four times already this year." Nick sighed remembering all the times he had had to persuade Sally that murder wasn't the answer.
"Yeah but he treats her like shit doesn't he? She could do so much better." AJ reminded Nick.
"I know and so do Sally and Darrell but Darrell's afraid of leaving him I think. It's pretty hard to sustain any kind of relationship as you and me well know. She has pretty much no self confidence and it doesn't help that most guys are totally intimidated by her. I'm intimidated by her!" Nick explained.
"Yeah me too. I think it's coz she's so rich and famous and ambitious..." AJ began.
"And sexy and intelligent and funny." Nick continued, they both started to laugh.
"Well what are you up to tonight?" AJ asked, remembering what the phone call had originally been about.
"Well after that conversation I think I might call Darrell." Nick laughed. "Ummm, nothing." He replied seriously.
"Ok well how about I come round to yours at about 8?" AJ asked.
"Sure." Nick said.
"Ok, I'll see you then. We can discuss some more intimidating character traits of Darrell's when I get there." AJ laughed.
"Ok you're on." Nick said. They said their goodbyes and Nick hung up. Nick dialled Brian's number.
