Chapter 4 --

Martial Arts and Sports

Martial arts and sports are alive and well in Tokyo. Proof of this can be seen in the numerous dojo (martial arts practice halls) and other sports facilities found throughout the city. Even the more traditional sports such as archery on horseback (yabusame) and the original forms of classical martial arts (kobudo) can be seen at festivals and special events throughout the year. And did you know that October 10 is designated as "Sports Day"--a legal holiday in Japan?
