Chapter 3

"Good morning," he said softly.
Aislinn smiled. "Good morn to ye as well, Nickolas" ahe replied just as softly.
"So how are ye feeling this morning?" she queried with as a look of concern flashed over her features.
"As well as I'll ever be, but for the headache. Nothing I haven't dealt with before."
"That is good, hopefully by midmorning you shall be walking on yer own two feet, telling me about your time."
"That would be my sincerest pleasure," he replied, thinking that he would do anything just to remain in her company.
She grinned. It took his breath away. This was not like the little half smiles she had thrown his way. She was truly happy to be with him, and knowing that made his heart soar.
"You have a beautiful smile," he blurted.
She smile grew. "Why thank ye, kind lord. And if the truth be known, I shall gain much pleasure by getting to know ye. Mayhap ye can teach this highland lass how to smile again."
She went into an antechamber to change, and she came out wearing a bright red gown, with a gold chain hanging low on her hips with a ruby in it's center. Her red gold hair was braided and hung all the way down her back with red and gold ribbons weaved into the braid. She looked absolutely gorgeous. Too bad the girls in his time weren't so honest about their looks that they couldn't look so naturally beautiful as Aislinn, he thought.
"Now up with ye, Nickolas. We have a long day ahead of us, and we must break our fast in the great hall." She pulled him up, and helped him down the winding wooden staircase until they were in the great hall. To her surprise, the hall was filled with members of her clan. That was not the real surprise. Her brothers and sisters had actually come down to eat this morn. She was truly happy to be among them all.
Aislinn, was finally tired out after the long day of doing her duties, introducing Nick to everyone in sight, and trying to be alone. Now, she had a chance to get away and seized it. As she walked along the shore, the loch shimmering in the sunlight, she heard a melodious sound coming from not too far off. She followed the sound, and to her amazement, she found Nickolas, singing a strange yet beautiful song. He had the most beautiful voice she had ever heard, and the sound made tears spring to her eyes.
"I'd go anywhere for you, anywhere you ask me to, I'll do anything for you, anything you want me to,"
"That's so beautiful", she said softly, coming to sit beside him.
Startled yet pleased, Nick looked over at the girl who was slowly yet unknowingly stealing his heart. Her eyes were filled with a weary, yet brightening light. As if she was becoming happier, and forgetting all the day's travails.
"Thank you, I actually wrote that song some years ago when I couldn't find someone to love me for me, so I just made up this imaginary girl and wrote this song for her."
"How could anyone not love you? Are the girls in your time so addle brained that they cannot see a truly rare and sweet man when one is looking right into their eyes?"
"What are you saying?" he asked cautiously, hoping with all his might that she was indeed saying what he thought ahe was.
"I am saying that we have known each other for but a couple days and yet I feel a strange kinship with you, as if you were sent to me for some unknown purpose."
He ____ed in a breath scarecely believing what she had just said. He wondered what the guys would think of her, and her of them.
As the weeks passed, Nick and Aislinn, who he now called his little daisy, grew closer and closer. One day, they were walking along the rocky beach together, which had become a daily tradition to them. They were talking about life in his time, how things were, family traditions, his siblings, his friends.
"So the eve of samhain in your time is called halloween, where the bairns wear costumes and go from house to house, all to get this marvelous invention called can-dy?"
"Yes, I'm afraid all the celtic traditions are long gone by my time. One year, my little brother Aaron dressed up as the grim reaper, just to scarre the little girls at school."
