Chapter 2
He went over to the sarcophogus and opened it up and removed the five outer casings before arriving at the cloth that covered the mummy. He gulped and removed the cloth, and what he saw stunned him. The girl was covered in bandages, but he could see her features were intact. She had been a tearing beauty, this one. Much like her grandmother, but she had a stronger tilt to her jawline and more determined look about her face while Nefertiti had looked delicately lovely. They guys came over and they, too, gasped in wonder. Several strands of long, wavy black hair poked through the bandages that were wrapped tightly about her head.
Nick hoisted the girl up and carried her outside the tomb and leaned her against the wall. He walked back into the tomb and gazed about until he located the pile of scrolls. He sifted through them until he found what looked like a spell. the guide had translated this particular piece into English, and he read it aloud without thinking.
"As surely as Ra crosses the sky each day in his sacred barge, this young woman is his daughter. She is one of few who are devout and in awe of his majesty, and so she has earned a high place in his realm and so she shall live again. O hear me, great god of the sun, breathe life back into thy daughter and return the soul which Osiris has taken. Let her live as she did in her past life, let her live and be happy. Let life be brought back into her by your rays, and let her be empowered by your brilliance." he read, and shuddered. It was impossible for her to live again. Or was it?
That night they camped outside the tomb, the mummified girl laying face up on the sand close by Nick. He actually didn't mind her presence there. He fell asleep quickly, and began to dream. He dreamt about the Egyptian girl and what she'd look like, and how they would be together. She would never have heard of BSB, and that could be to his advantage. But she would be regal, proud and the type of girl who would sacrifice herself for her people.
He woke up earlier to the sound of some movement. he opened his eyes and saw everyone else sleeping, and he looked absently at the ever peaceful Beketamun at his side. He looked again when he thought he saw something different about her face and gasped. Her features definitely looked like those of a living girl, and she seemed to fill out before his eyes. Her hair thickened and grew longer, her eyes grew larger until he saw the full extent of her beauty. her legs lengthened, and her chest expanded. He rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn't seeing things and pinched himself. It hurt. That meant that the princess was indeed looking more and more alive by the second. The spell, he thought silently. It's doing this to her. Then the girl began to move and make noise. suddenly, bandages ripped along her hands, and she ripped the rest off herself, exposing the smooth honey golden skin of her hands. Living skin.
She then ripped the bandages off her arms, revealing more skin and about five bracelets on each arm. She ripped the bandages off her head, realeasing the long, dark wavy hair from it's confinement. That hair rippled down all the way to her waist, and then her eyes opened. She looked around, looking confused. Nick slipped on a rock and fell down a sand dune. The girl's gaze shot up and she jogged down the down with amazing speed. She held out her hand to him, and he grasped it, hauling himself up.
She smiled shyly at him, then backed away as if his touch had burned her. She backed away many more paces as Nick advanced upon her, and then he saw the stark fear in her eyes. He stopped and stood stock still in the middle of the sand dune, looking dazedly at her.
Beketamun was frightened. She didn't know this man, yet she felt instantly closer to him than she had to her own father, whom she had never known. She stood still for a long time just looking him over as she contemplated if whether he was dangerous or not. She chose the latter, because he just stood there, eyes calm yet caring, and he looked exhausted.
And, he was undeniably
Home?
