The Earthquake of Doom
Hey! This is the first imaginary story I ever wrote about BSB....ironically it
was a grade 9 English assignment and I had to proofread it like a thousand times
before it was ready to hand in. Here is the very first and longest version of
this short story....it was my first one remember, so go easy on me!! It might
not be perfect but hey it's the only one of my stories that is completely
finished! =)
The earthquake of doom by: Lindsay
Hi! My name is Abby Littrell. My friends, my brother and I are lucky to be
alive. We are part of the little group of only one hundred people who've
survived the earthquake.
The earth quake, measuring about ten point five on the Richter scale was the
largest earthquake known to man. It shattered the world, especially vulnerable
places like Japan and Florida. Anyway, it started as a beautiful balmy evening
in Orlando, Florida. We were enjoying ourselves by the pool. Actually, about
three hundred of us were doing that because we were celebrating my brother
Brian's twenty fourth birthday.
At about 9:00 pm, the sky turned blacker than a hearse. (That is not normal for
Orlando at this time of night.) Then, the ground began to shake. It knocked
everybody over. Trees collapsed on helpless people. Their screams pierced the
air. Buildings rumbled and fell violently to the ground below. Flying debris hit
my best friend, Libby in the head but I couldn't do anything to help her because
my legs were broken.
My boyfriend Nick Carter still held on to me, even though it looked like he was
badly injured. Then, We kissed each other for what I thought was the last time.
I saw my cousin Kevin and my two other friends fall to the ground, but I
couldn't see my brother anywhere in the dark, dusty smoke. I didn't know how
much time had passed. I saw that the earth had been split everywhere. Only one
hundred people in the world had survived the earthquake and I felt extremely
sad about that. I awoke in a hospital, the nurse had told me about my injuries.
I could see Nick in the bed beside mine. To my relief, I saw my brother, my
cousin and my two friends in beds across the room with their eyes open. When I
asked about Libby, and my parents as well as Nick's parents, the nurse shook her
head sadly. She reminded me that only one hundred people in the world had
survived. I knew right then and there that they were all dead. Our families and
friends, all gone.
I was worried about Nick. I was treated and released from the hospital that
day, for I had been with Nick and he had taken the brunt of it all. I kneeled
beside his bed and started to cry while I fell asleep on his chest. When I woke
up again, Nick was awake and he was running his fingers through my hair and over
my face. I looked up at him and smiled and he smiled back.
I was eighteen when the earthquake hit. Now, I'm twenty and Nick and I are
married. We have a little daughter and another on the way. Life is tranquil now,
my brother couldn't be happier about being an uncle and the others are just as
happy. Now, the scientists (there are only ten of them, now.) are cloning
people's DNA and are cloning people to repolulate the earth. Whenever I think of
the others, I start to cry. For they were the ones that didn't make it.
The End
