Chapter 2

From Nick's point of view....

“This is real sweet,” I mumbled, rolling my eyes. “Thanks for bringing me here mom, I appreciate the boredom.”

My mom and me stood in the doorway of a small cabin which she expected me to stay in for the summer. She needed a vacation, she said, and she decided to bring me, her first born along with her. I was not impressed. While she went off and did relaxing stuff, I was supposed to be part of this teen group thing, that did hikes and stuff. Not my cup of tea. Not that I liked tea, either.

“Stop your whining, Nickolas,” my mom said, using the name I hated the most. She must be really mad at me.

“I’m sorry, mother,” I said, following her inside the cabin. I dropped my bags. “There’s not even a TV!”

“I told you there wouldn’t be,” my mom. She motioned to the top of a small set of stairs. “Pick a room, and get yourself settled in.”

I picked my bags back up, and headed up the small set of stairs. I picked the room on the right, and went inside. It was small, but I guess it was better then anything else around here. I threw my bags on the bed, and sat down on the edge. Not only would this be boring, but there weren’t going to be any girls, especially hot ones. Who would wanna come up here for the summer?

I stood up, and began to put clothes away in the dresser and closet.

“Nick?” My mom knocked on the door. It opened a second later. “Do you wanna go down to the lodge?”

“And do what?” I asked.

“We can meet some of the other people staying here,” my mom said, smiling. “Maybe you’ll meet some kids your age.”

“No thanks mom,” I said, shaking my head. “I’ll just stay here, if you don’t mind.”

“Okay, suit yourself,” my mom said, leaving the room. She closed the door behind her.

I laid back on my bed, and forgot about putting my stuff away for a minute. If I was back in Tampa, I’d be able to check out all the hot girls coming down for vacation. Instead I was stuck here, miles from my friends, and any hot girls.

I sighed, and sat up. While my mom was out, I could walk around a little by myself, check things out around here.

I stood up, and walked out of the cabin, and onto the dirt road. We were cabin eight, and the rest of the cabins around us all looked the same.

I began to walk in the opposite direction of the lodge. I passed a lady with greying, dark black hair. She smiled at me as she passed. Maybe my mom and her would become friends. That would be great, then I could hang out with my mom, and her friends. I was excited now.

I continued walking, watching the cabins as I passed by. If I had been paying attention, I would’ve seen the branch sticking out from under the path. But I didn’t, and I tripped over it.

“Shit,” I mumbled, as I hit the ground. Good thing there had been no one around to see me.

“Are you okay?” So, I had been wrong. Someone had seen me, someone with a feminine sounding voice. I looked up slowly. It was a girl alright. A very good-looking girl. She was standing on the steps of the cabin I was laying in front of.

“I’m fine,” I said, pushing myself off the ground. I got a better look of the girl. Her shoulder length dark brown hair was blowing in the slight breeze, and she was smiling. Her face was beautiful, and her body was amazing. Slim, toned, tanned. I’d never felt this way about any girl before.

“Are you sure?” The girl asked. “You fell pretty hard.”

“I’m sure,” I said, nodding my head.

“Well, that’s good,” the girl said. She came down off the steps, and approached me. “Do you work here or something?”

“No, my mom brought me here,” I said, feeling slightly flustered.

“Your mom?” The girl asked, raising her eyebrows. I had the feeling she was gonna think I was a huge loser. “So did mine.”

I sighed a breath of relief.

“I didn’t think there was gonna be anyone my age around her,” the girl said. She stuck out her hand. “I’m Amanda Lewis.” “Nick Carter,” I said, taking her hand. It was so warm, and soft. I let go after a couple of seconds.

“Nice to meet you,” Amanda said, smiling. She looked so much more then hot. She was gorgeous. She touched her cheek. “You have some, uh, dirt on your face.”

I had never felt more embarassment in my life. Not even when my best friend Brian Littrell pulled my pants down in front of the whole school in grade six. I wiped at my face quickly.

“It’s gone,” Amanda said.

I nodded. I wanted to get out of there, away from my embarassment.

“Well, I gotta go,” I said.

“Oh, okay,” Amanda said. “Maybe I’ll see you around, or something.”

I turned around. “Yeah, bye,” I said, walking back towards my cabin.
