"It is so awesome to be friends with a celebrity," said Olympus senior Joanna. The celebrity friend that Joanna is referring is Evan Farmer, member of the band "2gether."
Joanna is the sole webmaster of www.evanfarmer.cc, a web page dedicated to Evan Farmer. With his band, Evan has released two CDs and has a series on MTV called "2gether." He has also toured with Britney Spears.
Though she did not name her website as the official Evan Farmer fan site, Joanna says that this website has become "a very credible information database for all the Evan Farmer and 2gether fans." The site receives about 300 visitors per day, and so far, over 88,000 people have visited it.
"If they want to make sure of the validity of a piece of news regarding Evan or the band, the fans come to my site." Also, Joanna says that Evan Farmer endorses her site as his official website. "I don't want to appear to be pushy, so even if Evan dose call it his official site, I'm not going to put it on there. I guess you call it the unofficially official Evan Farmer website," said Joanna.
Joanna said that it's because of Evan Farmer's continuing support and involvement with the website that she continues to make the site better. "Evan always signs the guestbook on the site to keep all the fans updated," said Joanna.
So far, she has over 45 features on her website, including a place for Evan Farmer's favorite charity, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Joanna said "Because Evan's mom is a breast cancer survivor, he is very dedicated to this foundation. I have organized several fundraising events through my site for the foundation and right now I have raised over $360."
The website started when Joanna saw the "2gether" movie over a year ago on MTV. She thought Evan Farmer was "an interesting person, who also had a lot of charisma," and decided to start a website about him. "As I found out more and more about him, my initial interest turned into admiration for his talent, his kindness and his character," said Joanna. The website just celebrated its one-year anniversary on Feb. 7.
As to being friends with Evan Farmer, Joanna said that Evan often e-mails her to give her tha latest updates on "2gether" activities. He has also sent autographed pictures and souvenirs to her. "Evan was even kind enough to write me letters of recommendation for my college applications," said Joanna, "and when I thanked him for doing that for a fan, Evan told me that I'm not just his fan, but his friend."
Maintaining a website can be time consuming, according to Joanna, it takes her about two hours every time to update her website. However, she said, "I think the most rewarding part of this whole experience is that first of all, I have gained a friend, and I have also met so many wonderful people who share my admiration for Evan."
Joanna plans to meet Evan Farmer sometime in the future. "I always have this image of how perfect it would be when I finally get to meet him," said Joanna, "it would definitely be a highlight of my life."
