REVIEWS
Oh boy, I am REALLY digging this soundtrack. I absolutely love the mix of catchy beats, humorous lyrics, and powerful ballads. Besides the rich harmony, members from 2gether actually participated in the writing process of two songs, “Visualize” and “You’re My Baby Girl.” Below are my reviews for each song off the soundtrack.
1. 2gether
“2gether” is probably my favorite song off the soundtrack. The piano transition is a very nice touch. This is one of those songs that just sticks in your head after listening to it. Whoever sings the last line of the song, he ends the song very smoothly. (I think it is Alex.) Overall, it is a great pop song and Evan, Kevin, Michael, Noah, and Alex really sound good together.
2. U + Me = Us (Calculus)
What can I say about the song that brings Evan to my world?! The lyric is just so clever, and I love the “u, plus sign, me, equal sign, us” thing. The rap is a nice touch. Alex is really good at it. My favorite part of the song definitely is when Evan does his “speech,” he sounds so sexy. Since he does have a very deep voice, that helps. This reminds me of Backstreet Boys’s “I’ll Never Break Your Heart,” when Kevin talks in the beginning of the song. My only complaint for the song is the transition. Whoever tries to sing that high note sounds really bad. (Sorry, guys.)
3. Rub One Out
When I heard the song for the first time, I was like, “whose voice is that?” Then, I realized that it is not sung by 2gether. How dumb was I? I have to say that there are some great vocalists from Whoa! Although I don’t like the message of the song, it has a great melody. Want to know why? Andrew Fromm, who wrote Backstreet Boys’ “I Need You Tonight “ and “Spanish Eyes” is a part of the writing process of the song. This is my 2nd favorite song off the soundtrack.
4. Say It (Don’t Spray It)
This song is okay. But doesn’t Evan sound sexy or what?! I love the way he sounds in this song. However, I don’t quite get the message of the song. Not too much to say about the song.
5. Before We Say Goodbye
What a beautiful ballad! I was going to say that the lyric is very touching, in the sense that it is a goodbye-song for best friends, until I heard the phrase “can I still have sex with you?” What IS up with that?! But for all you Backstreet fans, listen carefully to the person that sing “can I still have sex.” Doesn’t he sound like Nick Carter? Anyway, it is all good and I still like the song.
6. Visualize
The song just reminds me of the “puppy love.” I really like the lyric “close your eyes, visualize, the most beautiful girl…” I wish someone would say that to me. Michael might be young, but he has potentials, considering he wrote the song himself, with helps from Russell Marsland.
7. You’re My Baby Girl
Oh…it’s Evan’s solo!!! I LOVE IT! When I heard this song, I was like, “wouldn’t it be great if Evan was singing it to me?” I wouldn’t mind making out with him. (Just kidding.)Can I just say the lyric is HILARIOUS?! I love how Erin’s name is being spelled out in the song. It’s very sweet. For some reason, I can totally see a picture of an innocent girl and a boy riding on a bicycle in the park under cloudless sky when I hear the song. This is definitely one of my favorites.
8. Breaking All The Rules
This is the other song besides “Rub One Out” that is not sung by 2gether. A member of the group, Unity, actually posted a message on my site’s forum. So go check it out and visit his site. It is very cool that they added a little bit of Spanish to the song. That is nice. Other than that, nothing really special about the song.
9. U + Me = Us (Calculus)
(Dream Maker Club Mix)
I like the remix, but I like the original version better. The repetition of the word “boyband” just bugs me. I love the fact that Carson Daly is a part of the remix. The highlight of the song is probably when Evan screams, “I’m Jerry O’Keefe, I am going to be a star, I am going to make it.” That is some attitude and determination there. I do need to make one comment. Jerry O’Keefe is just not the kind of names for a boyband member, especially the heartthrob.
10. Rub One Out
(Karaoke Version)
Nothing much to say about this one since it is just a repeat of the original version. But nice work.
