Note From Sandy

Hey, fellow 2Ge+herites!

That's right -- we're back!  Thank you for understanding that I needed some "down-time" to get settled in my dorm here at Kent State.  However, now that I've got some free time back on my hands, I'm relieved to assure you that 2G2d is still on!  GAME ON!  Also, if you'd like to see some new and interesting sites, check out the "Ads" section of this newsletter.  You'll be in for a surprise when you see the new official and semi-official sites!

And lastly, on a more serious note, I was preparing to work on the video collection today when I tripped upon the horrible news related to the attack on NYC, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania.  My sympathy goes out to all of you who were effected by this act of terrorism, and let the rest of us remember the message that Michael Cuccione left with us -- never take life for granted.

Yes, I know I have your money...and yes, I'm working on it.  I just recently brought my VCRs into my dorm so that I can work on the video collection between classes, so let me hold your trust just a bit more.  Honestly, I cannot wait to send it your way!

On a side note, please visit the Project Michael homepage to find out how you can help things go faster by lending me some appearances.  Thanks!

Stay tuned to this section for updates on the scrapbooks and your video collection orders!

NEW!

Ashley (michaelcuccionefoundation@hotmail.com) has been given all of your Project Michael-donated messages for the Cucciones, and she will let me know as soon as they reach Gloria.  Then, of course, I will notify you!

Also, would you like a Michael Cuccione T-shirt?  E-mail Ashley for a picture.  The shirts are $17 for US residents and $25 in Canada.  They are white, and the sizes of small, medium, large, or extra large.  In addition, she's selling buttons for $.35 that are very similar to those sold at the WBLI summer jam.  To order any of these things, e-mail her with your choice and details, and she'll do the rest!  (Psst...did I mention that all proceeds from these purchases will be going toward The Michael Cuccione Foundation?)

To learn more about Ashley's new brand of clothing, "Blink XiXi," you can also e-mail her.

In order to be on the Liquid Zu Street Team (to help spread fliers/the word and bring the new sound of Alex Solowitz's band to everyone), e-mail liquid_zu@hotmail.com with your name, age, telephone number, address, and "STREET TEAM" in the subject line.  The band will send you lots of LZ goodies (such as CDs, tapes, T-shirts, and stickers) with which you can advertise for them.  In addition, whenever they can, LZ will even put you on VIP lists at concerts and parties.  Take a shot and try it out -- you could be one of LZ's first groupies!

NEW!

The Blue Ribbon Project...are you involved yet?

--Each ribbon is only $1.00.  They are to be worn in January, mainly from the fifth to the thirteenth.  All proceeds go directly to The Michael Cuccione Foundation.  Also, a raffle is in the works for whoever buys a ribbon.  More information can be found in the project's update newsletter, to which you can easily subscribe by e-mailing Eryn at ERA83OK@aol.com.

--This fundraiser has been pre-approved by The Michael Cuccione Foundation, and if you'd like to begin a fundraiser, you should also get yours approved, as Gloria Cuccione has recently expressed anger over people taking advantage of Michael's name to score a few bucks.  To do this, you can reach someone from the foundation by calling 1-604-552-2850.  In addition, the Blue Ribbon Project is copyrighted by The Michael Cuccione Foundation and cannot be used by anyone else.  Beware of people using the name that are not associated with Eryn.

--Let me emphasize that anyone can purchase a blue ribbon; they don't need to be a fan of Michael.  Anyone who supports his hopes and dreams can participate in this world-spanning campaign.

--For more information on this project and its leaders, please visit www.michaelsblueribbons.cjb.net.

Member Hadley (Hadz033@aol.com) wrote a brief review of the new film "Ghost World" (which features a cameo by Alex Solowitz), coming to a theatre near you in the upcoming weeks:

"I saw Ghost World last night.  I thought the movie was the worst I have ever seen.  The only good part was Alex's.  He looked a lot thinner, and I think he was wearing an earring.  Although he only made a two-minute appearance near the end of the film, he does teach the main character how to be nicer to customers in the popcorn concession at a movie theatre."

Here's a note from XoBuTtErCuP 87xo@aol.com:

"It seems as though our attempts to get a tribute to Michael Cuccione in the VMAs has failed. My petition was sent in both in the mail and online, but no response came.  I just find it totally mind boggling that MTV just stopped the series, never mentioned it again, and continues to ignore all of the fan letters.  Overall, however, I am just happy that we are three signatures away from five-hundred and that there are still fans out there who care.  Thank you all for all you have done to help me!  Nicole"

This is an article published on Wednesday, 02-28-01:

"Girl Inspired By Friendship With TV Idol

It wasn't Michael Cuccione's poster-boy good looks that won Ashley Pooler's heart.  Nor was it his voice, or his CDs, or his starring role on an MTV series about a fictional boy band.  'I thought he was cute,' Ashley, 15, said with a hint of a blush Monday while her family looked on. 'But I was also really impressed by what he did.'  What Michael did, for those whose favorite-channel button doesn't include MTV, was wage a heroic war against cancer.  And in the process, he became Ashley's long-distance hero.

It started last spring.  Ashley, then an eighth-grader, was halfway through a school project on cancer when she heard on MTV that one of the boys in "2Ge+her" – the fictional boy band around which the network had built a movie, a series, and two albums – had battled Hodgkin's disease since he was 9.  'I thought, 'I should use that in my project,'' Ashley said.  She found his web site and read about the Michael Cuccione Foundation, through which he'd raised $500,000 for cancer research in his home province of British Columbia, Canada.  She found his book, 'There Are Survivors,' where she read how he dealt with his own disease by helping other young cancer patients deal with theirs.

Finally, last August, after running up a $125 phone bill calling every 'Cuccione' she could find in British Columbia, she found Michael.  'I was, like, so shocked I was actually talking to him,' she said.  'And he's like, 'I really want to talk to you, but I'm going to a movie. Can I call you back?''

A transcontinental friendship was born.  All last fall, they phoned and e-mailed back and forth. 'Ashley from Maine,' as Michael and his family called her, filled her room with his pictures – 164 in all.  She memorized the lyrics to his songs – her favorites were 'Making a Difference' and 'Never Give Up.'  Then in December, Michael told her he was traveling east with his mother and would like to meet her.  Ashley got out her calendar, circled the day, and went into orbit.

But it was not to be.  A car accident in late December left Michael with an injured diaphragm, which in turn led to pneumonia.  His lungs, after years of radiation and chemotherapy, were too weak to fight back.  On January 13, one week after he turned 16, Michael died.  Ashley heard the news on MTV and cried for an entire afternoon.  She went to school at Catherine McAuley High School the next day and cried even more.  Then she dried her eyes, sent a bouquet of flowers to British Columbia, and made Michael a promise.  'I'm going to raise $10,000 for his foundation,' she said.

She's not kidding.  On March 24, Ashley will host a spaghetti dinner at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Westbrook, complete with music, dancing, and a raffle.  'Everything is donated,' she said, sifting through the pile on her kitchen table.  The banquet hall is free.  So is the music by disc jockey Andy Campbell; the food from Amato's and A.J. Kennedy Fruit & Produce; the raffle prizes, compliments of 15 local businesses and counting.  Ashley even printed her own tickets and ran them through her father's laminating machine.  (You can buy a ticket by calling Kids Unlimited, her family's clothing store, at 878-5028.)

Sitting in her kitchen, surrounded by pictures of the band member everyone called 'the cute one,' Ashley from Maine recalled Michael from British Columbia not with breathless adoration, but with quiet admiration.  She may not have actually met the boy whose motto was 'make a difference,' she said, but 'I feel like I knew him anyway.'  Besides, she still may get her chance.  Gloria Ouellette, Ashley's grandmother, knew just what to say the day Michael died.  Monday evening, beaming with pride in her granddaughter, she said it again.  'Someday,' Gloria said, 'she'll meet him in heaven.'"

Fact: According to Kelly Lyons (Noah's "maybe-or-maybe-not girlfriend"), Noah is currently signed on to film a movie called "Lady Luck" which is expected to be released in theatres *and* will also be recording a CD to be finished in December.

Fact: Evan Farmer's got a secret! (Source: evanfarmer.cc)

2.

Want to help with Noah's upcoming solo CD?  Here's a message to 2G2d members from Kelly (Noah's "maybe-or-maybe-not girlfriend") herself!

"You can email me about Noah's voice or the type of music you would like to hear him singing.  We are in pre-production for his solo album, and I would love to get all the input I possibly can from his fans.  I will eventually set up another email account that will go directly to the record company, but for now it can go to me and I'll pass it on."

She'd like comments and suggestions about Noah's voice and music to be sent to her at Lyoness926@aol.com.  Apparently, Noah's also been asking for fans' opinions on what type of music beat/type he should use, so get yourself heard and tell them what you'd like to hear from our boy, Chadwin!

Alex Solowitz reportedly told someone to send mail to MTV and request their continued support of 2Ge+her.  Hey...it couldn't hurt.  For the three recommended addresses, e-mail me (subj: Where Can I Write In Support?).

And hey, if you've got a few minutes online, e-mail Lori.Abbott@AllianceAtlantis.com, the television publicity at AllianceAtlantis.com in the UK with your support instead of MTV's e-mail address.  They seem to be more interested in the fans than MTV does!

Quote/Fun Fact

"9-11-01:  All of us here in LZ would like to express our sympathy to those people who were victims of the horrible attacks that took place earlier today, on what is now one of the saddest days in American history. We are heart broken to hear about all the death and destruction that took place. Also if you know someone....maybe a family member or a friend.... who was a victim of this tragedy our hearts go out to you. With us being part of a generation that believes in all humans being free and having equal rights it makes us outraged to see an attack fueled by such hatred for someone else's beliefs. Those people in those buildings were just trying to go about their daily lives... trying to make a living to support themselves or their family's never even thinking that if they go to work today that they would be the victim of a cowardly attack by someone so weak minded to believe that the only correct way to live is their way. We hope that these criminals are found quickly and get the proper punishment that they deserve. And last to the victims, and family and friends of victims of this horrific attack on the United Sates..... if there is any way we might be able to help please let us know at liquid_zu@hotmail.com We are not sure what help we can give but we will do all we can and we ask that anybody reading this do the same. We pray for those who have passed and shed a tear for them and their family and friends." (Source: LiquidZu.com)

Anthology

Indeed, by any standard, Mickey has led a crazy life.  "I should be six feet under is where I should be.  I slain four men in cold blood.  Why ain't they come after me?  Ask the Lord.  'Nother time I concocted a mix of heroin and rock cocaine then got behind the wheel of a Mercedes.  Why ain't I dead?  Ask the Lord."  [Editor's note: The "four men" slain by Mickey were in the video game Quake II, and the "fatal concoction" was actually skim milk mixed with whole milk.]  -p70
