My Review: I have never thought I would cry over a 2Gether episode, but I did. This really is not your typical 2Gether episode; it includes drama, humor, lessons about life, love, self-realization and so much more!
Life, a hard rocky road, is composed of countless dilemmas, critical situations, difficult decisions that one will inevitably have to encounter from time to time. These elements are what make life interesting because the outcomes of such would most likely change you as a person forever. Through Evan and Erin, we can clearly see two individuals who represent two very different outlooks on life.
For Erin, she places selfism before anything else and I do respect that. It's really YOUR life, thus, you should seek fulfillment that pleases YOU and live for YOURSELF. Though I am not a very big fan of Erin (anyone could have guessed that; after all, she is the object of Evan's affection), I think I would make the same decision too if such situation she encounters falls upon me. (Of course if the guy is Evan, it would be a complete different story) Here, she has to decide between her future, career, and a relationship she knows that won't work out. She is young, intelligent, and has endless opportunities ahead of her, so why hold back herself in a "trap" when her priority is otherwise? You can of course argue the other way that the "right" person just doesn't come around everyday, but how could she be sure that Evan is the right person for her? There are so many things that she hasn't experienced; being as callow as she is, she needs to take risks and embrace every opportunity in order to grow. There really is a big world out there, and you should never restrict yourself from the endless possibilities.
In contrast, Evan's character represents the view of Romanticism. Perhaps a bit unrealistic, but he has this ideal version of life that everything is going to work out. It's most certainly hard for him too, choosing between a person he sincerely loves and a career that has gradually become his priority. Thus, Evan is a person, unlike Erin, who values his relationship just as much as his passion - being an entertainer. He has come this far in life, and how could anyone just give up everything for the interest of another person? Love sure can drive people crazy, but rationalism must stays. You CAN live without love; you CANNOT live without dreams. Dreams are what bring you hope and encourage you to remain strong. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you, let's not fight." I just completely lost it during that part. I still can't believe I was bawling. Evan is trying SO hard to make this relationship work out even when reality suggests the impossiblity. "Love is blind," how true is that! Though Evan is usually a very clear-minded person, when it comes to love, he fails to see the obstacles.
Evan: What about us?
You don't even want to know how emotional I was (I know, I am weird) when Evan says that in teary eyes. For the first time, he understands Erin no longer belongs to him. "Goodbye," such simple word, yet so heart-breaking. Through Erin's eyes, Evan sees the reality - she wants to be free. "If you love Erin, set her free. If she comes back to you..." I'll finish this one. If she comes back to you, then you'll know she truly belongs to you. Evan obviously understands this, as he watches Erin's smile from the window. I really do believe love equals sacrifices. I know if I love someone more than I love myself, I would want to ensure the happiness of the other person no matter what kind of sacrifices I would have to make. You'll know when you truly love someone as you gain satisfication simply from seeing the happiness of your loved one.
On another note, Erin reminds me a great deal of Kate Winslet from "Titanic." Don't you think? "Let's have his [Evan's] baby," "...watch the saliva." That's so darn funny! By the way, I cried too while watching "Patch Adams." That is such an excellent movie, I highly recommand everyone of you to watch it if you haven't done so already. Make sure you have plenty of tissues to spare.
What else can I say about the episode that brings tears to my eyes. And what about the ending, with Evan looking out from the window? I think that is THE moment of realization. Someone once told me that "we don't remember the days; we remember the moments." Erin will forever have special place in Evan's heart, but he has learned to move on. This episode undoubtedly is A+ material!
Erin: Goodbye.
