Now this may shock several people, considering I'm a Palletshipper and all, but I like Misty. I adore her truthfully. She is funny, she gets great lines, she manages to keep Ash in line, and a whole ton of other things. The only thing to dislike about her is the thing which most people hate her for. She gets in the way of Palletshipping and brings to light the evil which is Pokeshipping.
Are you all done screaming in fear now? I know I shudder when ever that evil is uttered. Oh, and that blasted song on the first Pokemon song, which is so wonderfully titled "Misty's Song". The song on the Jhoto cd isn't as bad, I think it's pretty anti-pokeshipping but I'm not discussing her songs yet!
Back to what I was getting at in the first place. Misty is a great character who never fails to make me laugh. It's just the whole Pokeshipping thing which annoys me. Personally I see no basis in it. Ash and Misty just do not go together. They are just too much alike and act too much like brother and sister to make a romantic couple, now or when they're older. THey remind me so much of my younger brother and I that it's a little scary. And they have the same age gap too! Two years in the manga. (Ash is 10 and Misty is 12)
That's another thing, the age gap. I'm not saying that people should only be with another person like within 6 months of their birth or whatever but it's a proven fact that girls mature faster than boys so that age gap paired with the maturity gap is a big one. Besides, why would Misty want bratty lil Ash when she can have the hottie and a half Brock? (I looooove Gymshipping by the way...)
I keep getting off track...Ash and Misty would not make a good couple because they are so much alike. They're both brash, complusive,have hot tempers and are quite often at eachother's throats for some reason or another. They both need someone calmer and more reserved to settled them down. That's where Gary and Brock come in. Both are realitivly calm characters (unless Gary's competing for something or Brock's in girl mode...) and they could keep the hot tempered younger ones in line. Besides, Gary and Ash make a hot couple and so do Misty and Brock. (Sorry, that's my aesthetic side comming out...)
Now, on to the songs. "Misty's Song" is eeeeeevil. I have put myself through the torture of listening to it once and I shall never do it again. There are reasons beyond that it's pro-pokeshipping that I don't like it. For one, it doesn't represent Misty is the slightest. It's not her V.A. singing (and no one had tell me that Rachel Lillis can't sing cuz she sings as Jessie and she kicks ass!). The V.A. thing is something a lot of people point out so i'll leave it there. Another reason I think it doesn't represent Misty very well is cuz all that mushy/lovey-dovey crap is something Misty would never say. it's totally out of character for her! Oh, and Kasumi (Misty's Japanese name) has no such song. Nothing like it. "Misty's Song" is a crap 4Kids invention.
Actually Pokeshipping in general is a crap 4Kids invention. Nowhere in the Japanese version are there hints to Pokeshipping. Palletshipping is tonnes of times more popular than it. I don't think there are any Japanese Pokeshipping sites.....but I could be wrong. I know there are lots of ShiShi ones though. (Check out the art on some of them *drool*)
