EVENT REPORT - Dave Owen

A lot of rain was forecast for most of this day. The forecast offered hope that the rain might ease off and give us some clear skies in the evening. However, although the rain almost vanished, the clouds lingered until after midnight. We therefore had to display our telescopes indoors, instead of using them outside.

When I arrived at the Visitors Centre at about 19:23, with Geoff Regan and Graham Roberts, Jim Stacey was already there with his 5 inch Maksutov scope. The Stadt Moers Ranger, Tony Hearn, was also there and immediately offered us some coffee. Tony also took several digital photos that should appear on this site fairly soon. I also took a couple of photos. Jim Stacey snapped some more and there was even a Knowsley Council Photographer taking pictures!

By 19:40 all of our 7 visitors had arrived. Adding ourselves, the Ranger and the KBC Photographer made a total of 12 for this event. At about 19:55 Geoff Regan started a half hour slide show. The first half was a quick tour of the solar system. He finished with a rapid tour of deep sky objects within our Galaxy and beyond.

The Last hour was spent in answering questions from the visitors and displaying photos and astronomy software on the LAS Laptop PC. The last of our visitors left at about 21:40 and we finally said goodbye to Tony at about 22:00. However, before we left we were able to arrange two more return visits for Fri 7 Feb 2003 and Fri 28 Nov 2003, at the usual times of 19:30 to 21:30. Hopefully, at least one of these will be clear enough to use our 16 inch telescope.
