Welcome to Togepi's Pokemon Gold and Silver FAQ! If you have a question that is not answered here, please feel free to post it on the message board or in the guestbook.
Q. When will Pokemon Gold/Silver Versions be coming to North America?
A. On the Pokemon world Web Page, the date is October 16, 2000, not September as was originally prospected. (Exactly one year after Yellow came out) Coincidence? I think not.
Q. Will there be any new Pokemon?
Yes! There will be 100 New pokemon in Gold and Silver versions. The three starting pokemon are Totodile, a water type pokemon, Chicorita, a grass type, and the fire type, Cyndaquil. I have heard that the best of the three to start out with was Cyndaquil.
Q. What are some other differences between Gold and Silver Compared with Red, Blue, Green and Yellow?
A. A big difference is that It has a built in clock, and has night time settings, so you'll have to stay up late to catch nocturnal Pokémon. Another is the gear you carry. You get a cellular phone, and a much bigger backpack with four compartments. there are different kinds of pokeballs, and also, two new types of pokemon, evil and steel. Evil pokemon are good against psychic, which were the most powerful in R/B/Y/G. Another Big difference is that you can breed pokemon to get pre- evolved forms, and you can tell if your pokemon are male or female.
Q. How do pokemon evolve in G/S?
A. Pokemon in gold and silver evolve in many different ways. Some evolve the conventional way by levels, some by trading, and some by stones. There is a new stone called the sun stone which evolves Gloom into Karihana. There are also special items like silver feathers or scales that you can place on your pokemon and then trade them. Some pokemon also evolve into different things if they evolve in the day or night, or depending on the ratio of attack to defence. Evolution is Much more complicated in G/S!!
Q. Who is the main character?
A. In Gold and Silver, the two Main characters of hero and rival are not Ash and Gary. Gary is now the leader of the viridian City Gym, and Ash is training in the mountains and is the last trainer in the game, and possibly the most difficult with a L81 Pikachu, and a balanced team. The Main characters are yet to be unveiled.
Q. Is there any secret Pokemon?
A. Yes. The secret pokemon in Gold and Silver is Serebii the alien Pokemon. Unlike Mew, he can be found at random in the game, though it is very rare. there are also some one shot pokemon like mewtwo that are three ancient dogs, Luigia and Ho-oh, also known as Hohou.
Q. Is there any new cities?
A. Yes, there are eight new cities, with gyms with bugs, birds and ice pokemon to name a few. Once you have beaten the new cities and the elite four, you can take a train to the old pokemon world, and beat all of the trainers from red, Blue Yellow and Green.
