| POKéRUS |
When battling, there is a 1 in 21845 chance that your Pokémon will become infected with a virus. Since this is a slimmer chance than finding a Color Pokémon in the wild, most players will never see this virus in their game. Therefore, those who do would feel very lucky.
After a Pokémon has become infected, their status reads "POKéRUS". Most Trainers don't notice the infection, however, until they talk to a Nurse in a Pokémon Center to heal their Pokémon. The Nurse will say that there are small life forms on the Pokémon. Then, Professor Elm will call saying that the PokéRus is harmless, has no apparent effect, and will wear off in time. An infected Pokémon can infect adjacent Pokémon on your belt during battles. The PokéRus will last up to 5 days before the Pokémon is cured. However, if a Pokémon with PokRus is kept in a box in Bill's PC, the PokéRus will not be cured. This means that you can keep a Pokémon infected to infect other Pokémon later. This is important, because when a Pokémon has become immune (cured itself) of PokéRus, it no longer has the virus, and cannot spread the virus. You can tell if a Pokémon is cured beause there will be a little * mark on its status screen. What does PokéRus do? It doubles the Effort Value received from battles. This means that stats grow twice as fast than they would normally, while still receiving normal experience for level. This is especially helpful with Pokémon caught at level 40 or higher, and usually don't reach their full stat potential. The best part is that after your Pokémon becomes cured of PokRus, it still has the double Effort Value gain! Additionally, it should be common knowledge that defeating 780 Unowns will max out a Pokémon's Effort Values. However, with PokéRus, it only takes 390 Unown to defeat! |
