Chapter Eight

"Ok. We have security outside, 24 hours, we've got an alarm system, and we've got a panic button installed that only you and I know about Nick." The Detective told Nick. "All you do is press the button and within 5 minutes or less we're here. Now the button is right here underneath the kitchen counter. Do not tell anyone about it. Not even your mother. That way we know that it's you calling for help. Any questions?"

Nick just shook his head looking at the Detective,"Don't worry Mr.Carter this building is the safest you'll ever find. You and your girlfriend should be just fine. This whole building is one big security blanket. You'll be fine."

"She's not my girlfriend." Nick muttered then sighed and sat down as the detective left. He couldn't believe he was now staying in a complex that was more like a prison. There were bars on the windows. The only way to his apartment was through a room filled with security officers. And atleast two had to go up the elevator with you. The elevator took you straight to a small hallway to his apartment. He hated it. No ocean view, no freedom, nothing. He couldn't even sit outside whenever he wanted. But he had to stay there till they figure this whole thing out.

It had been a week since the last phone call. But I had recieved various gifts from the voice. All of which, said they were close to me. They came in flowers, cards, candy, just about anything that would normally be a nice gift. The last one came yesterday morning though. I had been in a hotel room till they got everything set up here and when I walked out to get a bite to eat some how they had gotten into my room. Written on the walls in red lipstick was, "I'm home."

It struck alot of panic ofcourse so here I am stuck now. Damn the person who's doing this to me.

"Hey sweetie I'm back from the store." Catherine said walking in with a security officer. I had to get up and put in a code so the silent alarm wouldn't be set off.

"Good I finally have food, I'm starving." I said after the officer left and then followed Catherine into the kitchen.

"Actually, I was thinking. Why don't we get you out of here. I've already talked to everyone and got the Ok. I found a nice place in town. It's pretty public so no one would even dream of doign anything stupid to get to you. And it's near the beach. It's a wonderful little resteraunt, and security will have a table across the room from ours and there will be a driver who will take us there and back. What do you say?" Catherine smiled.

"Sounds good to me. I need to get out before I'm trapped in here. I know it's only been a few hours but God I was stuck in a hotel room for days and now this. I need the beach, thank you." Nick said kissing Catherine.

Over the past few days, Nick had been able to get really close to Catherine. She was helping him alot, well not really but she was fun in bed and good company so why not? He didn't want to be alone right now with the stalker one the loose and a female companion sounded good. Neither of them were serious, just wanted to have fun and get to know each other better. Maybe it will go into something more...Nick thought. But later. Much later.

Catherine grabbed and coat and then looked at Nick,"Ready?"

Nick shook his head from his thoughts and grabbed his wallet,"Yeah I'm ready. Let's go."

Nick put in a code and then closed the door. They walked over to the elevator and waited. Nick looked around and counted about five officers spread out in the hallway, then sighed. Yea...he really needed this.
