“I hate boys.” Jess threw herself onto her bed, the phone pressed to her ear as she grumbled the words. “Thanks a lot.” Nick responded from the other end. “Oh you know what I mean Nick, besides, you’re not a boy…” “Yeah! I’m a MAN!” “No…you’re a Nick!” The two laughed at the friendly bickering. Jess sighed, “No but honestly Nick, I mean, why do guys have to be such jerks? I mean, why can’t they be like…well, like you…only boyfriend material…”
Nick sat up, “Are you saying I’m not boyfriend material? Rachel seems to think I’m pretty damn okay.” He shot back at Jess. “Noooo…” Jess explained, “I mean, why can’t I find a guy who’s great like you but one that I’d WANT to date you dork.” Nick sat back against the headboard of his bed, “Oh, I get it. You wouldn’t date me yourself but you want someone as incredible as me TO date huh?” he laughed. “Date you…eww gross,” Jess laughed, “but yeah, I want someone like you, I mean at least you treat me with SOME respect. Not like that loser ex friend of yours, Matt.” Nick frowned at the mention of the name, “I’m still going to kick his ass you know that right Jess?” “No you aren’t. And besides, I don’t think he’s really going to want to hit on any girls, not for awhile anyway…” Nicks’ legs clamped together automatically at the implication Jess was making. “Ow, damn Jess…remind me never to never try to feel you up without permission!” He grinned though, at the thought of Jess kneeing that jerk Matt in the balls hard enough to bend him over and drop to his knees, the way she’d told him he had. “Well Nickolas dear, I think you have more sense that that steroid loving football player.” She grinned back.
“I can’t believe you’re actually going out with Rachel though.” Jess shook her head laughing, standing up and walking to her window seat. Perching on it she looked across her yard to Nick’s house. From where she sat she could see his bedroom window.
Nick shook his head laughing. He stood up and walked to the desk in front of his window. Sitting in the chair he threw his long legs up onto the desk and looked across his yard. From where he sat he could see Jess’s bedroom window. “She’s not so bad…hell, she’s cute and she’s grown up a lot in 2 years.” Jess smiled at the sound of his voice, “You liiiiike her don’t you!” she teased. “Shut up loser!” Jess laughed, “Hey, I think it’s cute Nickolas…I mean it’s about time you went out with someone halfway decent. Even if she does talk your ear off.” “Actually Jessalyn,” Nick grinned, using her full name just to annoy her, “there isn’t much talking at all…if ya catch my drift.” “Ugh! Gross! Too much information thank you!” The two laughed again until each heard their mothers yelling that dinner was ready.
“Talk to you after dinner?” Jess questioned. “Of course, we’ve only been doing it for 10 years!” Nick smiled, as the two hung up.
