Hanging by a Thread

My dishonesty disgusts me
My deceit unnerves me
This giant wave of teen angst
resembles walking a ship's planks
I hate the way I lie
I hate the way I live
I hate my being shy
I hate the way I treat people
I hate the way people treat me
I've been blind but now I see clearly
I'm drowning in a deep sea of hyped emotions
in which there is but one method of escape
I've removed and discarded this cape
I hate my life
I want to die
Too many answers to the question "why?"
My birth took nine whole months in the making
Death will come in nine seconds when this knife starts slitting
I'm ending it all now
No more lying, no more suffering
No more torture, no more pain
No longer will I subject to this life of shame
I want to put an end to this abhorrent game
But can't
My hand won't do anything but shake
Around my neck coils an imaginary snake
For the first time in my life, I'm fully awake
With tears streaking down my face, I'm a big disgrace
I'm too scared, too unsure of what's happening
I close my eyes and hear a haunting voice laughing
A laughter tainted with confusion, much like myself
I'm too afraid to hurt myself--there must be another way
There must be another way
I'll live now, only to try again another day

COMMENTS
"Hanging by a Thread" was by far the longest poem I've done at the time. I'm sure most teens
go through times when they feel like all hope's lost. Just remember this: if things can't
get any worse, they can only get better, right? Maybe I should take my own advice...
