Vahazayi are curious creatures to be true. They will more than likely demand to know about a potential race but shy away and refuse to answer anything having to deal with themselves. One of the topics that have come up over time is the question of religion. Do they have one? If so, whom do they worship and why? If they do not, how come? Hopefully this can explain a bit of those misconceptions.

Of Gods:

It is a known fact that the Vahazayi race was created by a single Being on His journey through the cosmos. This Being has many names in many mythos, but most Phoenixes choose to call Him only God. Vahazayi respect and honor God, but in many different ways, mostly in private and away from others. Vahazayi have no organized religion and therefore do not congregate like mortals to worship. Some can go millennia without ever invoking God’s Name or even thinking about Him. This does not seem to bother the Almighty, for ever since the creation of the race, He has not been heard from; that doesn’t mean He is not around, though.

Of Solarius:

For those born after the death of Solarius Aran’fay, he has become a sort of demi-god. Invocations such as “Solarius Guide You” are favorites among the younger crowd. Even strictly older Phoenixes have been known to utter the golden Lord’s name under strain, in vocation or otherwise, even if they knew him in life. Whether Solarius actually answers prayers is between him and the invoker -- as mentioned previously, for such a prolific race, Vahazayi are very private. Following his death, Larath ascended the stairway of deism and became a demi as his predecessor. However, there are no oaths to date that invoke Larath’s name. He doesn’t seem to mind at all.

Of Vaha:

What is exactly “Vaha” that so many Phoenixes swear by more so than God or Solarius? Simply put, “Vaha” is Fire; hence the name “Vahazayi” – which is Bird of Fire loosely translated. (Strictly translated, it is Firebird, but that draws parallels where there shouldn’t be any, so Phoenixes simply call themselves Birds of Fire.)  Vaha is not a god by any means, though it is seen capitalized. There are no prayers to Vaha or invocations in Vaha’s name. Vaha is simply the most basic of swears, for Phoenixes are fire and what more logically way to swear than to swear by yourself? Vai Vaha is what most Vahazayi say, which is “by Vaha.” Swearing by but not invoking? Complicated, yes, but that’s how they see it – and Vahazayi are truly complicated creatures to be sure.
