The Roil Wedding

The Full Moon Ceremony ~ Casting of the Circle

The Merlin rings a bell three times.

The circle is about to be cast and I freely stand within to greet the Goddesses and Gods.

He takes a candle and lights each candle of the circle, moving east, south, west and north:

East - I call upon light and air at the east to illuminate and enliven the circle.
South - I call upon light and fire at the south to illuminate and warm the circle.
West - I call upon light and water at the west to illuminate and cleanse the circle.
North - I call upon light and earth at the north to illuminate and strengthen the circle.

The Merlin stands at the center and raises the athame, the magical double bladed knife with ebony handle.

I call upon Akasha (
Peter) to unify and energize the circle and all within.

With athame raised, The Merlin moves to the east.

I draw this circle in the presence of the Goddesses and Gods where they may come and bless their children.

He lowers the athame and walks around the circle, east to south to west to north, blue light shooting out from the athame point and forming the circle boundary.

This is the boundary of the circle.  Only love shall enter and leave.

He returns to the center.

I consecrate this circle in the names of the Goddesses and Gods.  The circle is conjured, a circle of power that is purified and sealed.  So might it be!

The Merlin takes the athame and walks to the east quarter.

I call upon the East, Hawk of Dawn, and the Elemental Air.  Attend this rite, guard this circle and join me in this celebration.

A wisp of red mist swirls in the east quarter, then solidifies into the ancient Cometstone.  East (Miss Pepper) all decked out in wedding finery floats to the top of the Cometstone and peruses the goodies and treats on its shelf top.  Air (Ariel) with her athletic blush remaining from last night's chase, and other activities not to be mentioned herein, moves to the foot of the Cometstone and whispers to Miss Pepper to toss down some of those goodies!

The Merlin takes the athame and walks to the south quarter.

I call upon the South, The Great Stag, and the Elemental Fire.  Attend this rite, guard this circle and join me in this celebration.

A huge torch appears in the south quarter.  A lightening bolt ignites it until the entire top appears to be a giant bonfire.  South (Queen Brianna) and Fire (Siofra) move to the bench beneath the torch.  "We have an nice alter to keep us warm and cozy for the evening" whispers Siofra.  "Yes... as long as it doesn't singe my lovely coat" the queen replies.

The Merlin takes the athame and walks to the west quarter.

I call upon the West, Salmon of Wisdom, and the Elemental Water.  Attend this rite, guard this circle and join me in this celebration.

From the lochs, a fragment of mist travels to the west quarter of the circle and gradually assumes the shape of a small corracle with wicker frame and stretched hide covering and an emerald puddle of water encircling the craft.  West (Zephyr) and Water (Pagan) step into the corracle.  Zephyr settles onto the seat while Pagan sits on the edge and dips her toes into the puddle remarking, "That Merlin knows how to build a proper boat!"

The Merlin takes the athame and walks to the north quarter.

I call upon the North, Bear of the Starry Heavens, and the Elemental Earth.  Attend this rite, guard this circle and join me in this celebration.

A glow appears in the north quarter and solidifies, taking the shape of a wondrous alter with a circular bench and a bed of lavender buds on the top.  North (Queen Whisper) regally settles herself on the bench, arranging her queenly robe and Earth (Duchess Henna) reclines in the bed of lavender buds murmuring, "There's room for all my babies here."

The Merlin returns to the Center and gazes at the horizon where the full moon is beginning to rise.

Behold the Great Lady who travels the sky.  The stars shine around her and light up the night.

He takes his wand and raising it up, says...

Lovely Lady known by so many names, honor and reverence I give to you and invite you to join us on this, your special night.  Shine your magic upon us.  Speak with us and join and bless this celebration.

The Merlin lowers the wand and rings the bell three times.

The Great Crow leaves its perch at the edge of the forest, glides through the chill air and comes to rest on The Merlin's shoulder.  The white billowing mist from the lochs rises and moves to the edge of the clearing.  It begins to extend, like an astral tunnel, to the eastern edge of the great forest, and then becomes an old cathedral nave of glowing translucent mist.  As it settles down into the trees, it almost disappears from sight except for the top of an occasional spire or fragment of vaulted ceiling.  The way is marked.  All await the arrival of the Wedding Party and Guests...
