Poletni Metuljcki
The Little Butterflies of Summer
Our miniature ballet, "Poletni Metuljcki" ("The Little Butterflies of Summer") employs all of our dances aged 6 and above. The story is quite simple - the butterflies wake up in the morning, and then some dance in the wind. Others land on flowers, while the smallest ones are just learning to fly. A few of them have a good romp in the sunshine, and then it becomes night and the butterflies go to sleep and dream of the fun to come on another day!

This is how the ballet begins - waking up in the morning.

During the wake-up dance, the Mladinski II class hits this pose, and I was pleased to see them pull it off well this time.

Later in the wake-up dance the small girls take center stage.

Halfway through the wake-up dance comes the infamous "diagonala vrsta" - diagonal line, which we worked hard to make straight, with all legs turned out and all arms nicely curved.

Towards the end of the wake-up dance everyone suddenly spins together in their own little spot. My boss, Aleks, says this is his favorite part.

Next comes the dance of the butterflies in the wind, performed by the Solski (school-aged) class, L-R: Neza, Lara, Alja, Lea, Lucija, Liza, Tamara.

A very cute moment from the wind dance.

After that, Lea and Tamara of Mladinski I (Youth I) performed the dance of butterflies on flowers, with the Uvodni I (Beginner I) class on the floor as the corps de ballet.

This was an especially proud moment, because they got into this pose from a pirouette - not an easy thing to do!

At the very end of the dance on the flowers, the light begins to change to set the stage for the next dance. I love the way it looks in this picture.

The beginning of the dance about learning to fly, which was appropriately danced by the Uvodni I (Beginner I) class.

Trying out their wings: front line - Tina, Zala, Tereza; back line - Neza, Lana, Anja.

I just had to include this picture, because Lana (besides being adorable) is hitting the ideal plie position here - not bad for her first year!

The butterflies dancing in the sunshine, Mladinski II (Youth II) class.

I love this picture - straight lines, feet and legs more or less correct, arms more or less curved. This took a lot of work, believe it or not.

Again, I'm pleased that everyone is together, and in the right position! On the floor: Anamarija, Izabela, Neza; standing: Tina, Ana, Ursa, Tihe.

One of the final moments of the dance in the sunshine.

And then it's time to go to sleep - this pattern is the second to last tableau of the ballet.

Slowly, the butterflies fold their wings and go to sleep.

The ballet ends with a slow morph through four elegant poses. Unfortunately I don't have a shot of the last one, but this is close.

And then the bowing commenced (and the clapping! And the crying! And, eventually, the cleaning up.)
