Cobargo Girl

a turnoff from town

my dust kicking tyres

running to the range

following a stream

through frost crusted fields

the valley-head approaching

peaks and ridges of black/green

yellow lit in the morning

a gliding eagle sharp-turns above me

a tangle of mountain forest

blue smoke from a white painted house

the door thrown open

you run through biting cold!

my chest hit by a banging heartbeat

a gleaming eyed smile

this crushing grip!

chin digging in my shoulder

shaking to the sound of a lost voice

the warmth of your sobbing breath
