Love in the Snow
It’s Christmas now. Love is blooming through the snow. Yumi waited down the
stairs.
“Come on! We don’t have all day!” she shouted.
“I’m coming! I’m coming!” Toshiki shouted back. His girl rolled her eyes. She
started pacing around in place. The girl huffed. She looked at her watch. They
were going to be late.
“Come on!” She backed up when she heard footsteps coming down the stairs. And
there he was. Toshiki was dressed for winter. His girl sighed.
“It’s about time,” she said. “What took you so long?”
“I’m sorry,” Toshiki said. He bowed and nervously laughed. The vet rubbed the
back of his head. Yumi huffed.
“Ready to go?” she asked.
“Yeah,” he said. The girl perked up.
“Good, let’s go.” She held out her hand. Toshiki took it and smiled. He took her
hand. And out the door they went.
---------
They will make this work. He’s willing to try. So is she. Yumi looked over her
shoulder.
“Where are you going again?” Toshiki asked.
“We’re going out to dinner,” Yumi said. “And go see the lights, get something
sweet, and then…”
“And then…”
Yumi shrugged. “Don’t know.”
“What does that mean?” he asked. She shrugged again.
“We’ll just have to see,” Yumi said. Her fiancé frowned.
“That’s it?” he asked. Yumi giggled.
The couple walked past Don and Miyukizi on the street. The older couple looked
so happy as they held hands.
Meanwhile, Yumi turned her head again.
“What did you say?” she asked. Toshiki was staring at her.
“I love you,” he said again. Yumi’s cheeks turned red. She didn’t have to ask.
She knew who he was talking to. The girl turned to face him.
“I love you too,” she said. Yumi winked and blew him a kiss.
But wait, the story isn’t over. This love story has more parts to it. For now,
let us enjoy the first blooms in the snow. Toshiki and Yumi look like they could
make it. They don’t know if it will work. But they are going to try anyway.
