Across the Adriatic . . .
Page Two: The Venice Portion of Marisa's European Adventure

We hauled our butts all the way up to this rather nice view of Piran, a town which reminded me just a little bit of the Aegean islands like Lesbos or Samos in Greece.

The sun sets late over Piran, this picture was at just before 9pm.

Bright and early the next morning we took the boat to Venice, Italy, where it was much sunnier and hotter than anywhere in Slovenia. This was the first picture we took, and I love it because it shows how vibrant the colors in Venice are.

This is probably my favorite picture of the entire trip, taken in front of the Basilica of San Marco. I've wanted to go to Italy since fall of '99, when I sat in Prof. Felton's darkened classroom and looked at pictures of the cities and art. Finally I was there, and it was at this moment that it started to sink in.

To make Venice's most famous destination feel thoroughly Italian there are cafes around the perimeter providing live Italian-flavored classical music. We both agreed that it was impossible not to sit together in the Piazza San Marco and have a cappuccino while tuxedo-clad musicians gifted us a tango.

After racing around Venice trying to see as many Titians as possible in under six hours, we had to bust a move back to the Prince of Venice, bound for Slovenia again. Which didn't mean there wasn't time to stop for a photo on the Ponte dell'Accademia (Santa Maria della Salute, host of a few said Titians, in the background).
