Information

Dear Reader, dear co-op/worker owned store & dear community,

How are you? Well, we hope. On behalf of our entire band, I want to briefly introduce Sandy to you. She is a wonderful person, singer & songwriter. She joined our band on nothing but love & blind faith after reading a musicians wanted description about the BNB. Her membership with the BNB is based on her values of love, feeding the hungry, stress-free living & entertaining YOU & all people. Sandy has poured her heart, soul & countless moments into developing her music. Without question, it shows in the beauty of her work.

Her participation in the BNB is INVALUABLE to the love, freedom, co-op & community Support goals of the BNB. We would like to note that, as with most, if not all members of our band.... (can you say po-ver-ty? *happy laughter*) ...Sandy makes absolutely 0% profit on basic sales of this zine, BNB posters & BNB cassettes. Rather, Sandy is able to continue her united support of co-ops & communities all across the U.S.A. & world by receiving your DIRECT support.

As you may know, the BNB is a UNITED group of independent artist & bands. Thus, Sandy, as with all members of the BNB, DIRECTLY receives 100% of the profit from individually priced, 'collectors edition' hand signed copies of this zine, hand-signed BNB posters & hand signed BNB tape cassettes. Of course, she receives 100% of the profit from the sale of her own incredible CDs, including her fantastic CD titled "Simple Things". Dear reader, please support INDEPENDENT ARTISTS by contacting Sandy (Sandy's email address Sandythrush@hotmail.com ) or by simply taking a look at Sandy's online event calendar, on our web site, which shows where Sandy will be performing nationwide.

Dear co-op, worker-owned and/or independently owned stores, no matter where in the country you are, please contact Sandy to welcome her to perform in your place of business. Or perhaps you can help her co-ordinate or promote a public performance in your area. In this way, she can develop her nationwide performance tour with as much advance planning as possible. Dear community, 3 more things. Number 3, if you really enjoyed Sandy's music, please nominate or vote for her at any type of cool music awards in your area. *smile* Sandy will be accepting awards & trophies *smile* on behalf of the BNB's " Organic Pizza Please" tape, zine & poster whenever possible & keeping 100% of any money that comes with it. Number 2, please consider signing up for our free twice-a-year email newsletter. As independent artists, without YOU, we don't have a chance to be heard due to the maniacal monopoly corporate music has on the world! *happy laughter*.

Now, the most important thing... number... *drum roll!*.... ...ONE! Please... ...again, accept our thanks for reading our zine, looking at our poster & listening to our poetry & music! In humility we say: WE WILL ONLY CONTINUE TO GET BETTER... BECAUSE YOU ARE THE BEST! Much like Sandy says in her uplifting song titled 'All The Good Things'...."life changes & things get better... ...if you try."

On Behalf of the entire BNB, We Love You All,

T.v.L.i.m.i.t. BNB

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is It Completely Free To Join?

Yes. It is 100% free to join our band. There are no membership dues, no hidden costs, no registration fees.

We are not a record label. We are not a referral service.

IF I send my song, poem or story to D S A M E and the BNB band do I still own it? YES. When you send your song, poem or story to D S A M E you still have 100% ownership of your song, poem, story or anything else that you send to us. In no way, manner or form does D S A M E or the BNB band become owner of your material.

What do the letters BNB stand for? BNB is a ninth-dimensional acronym meaning that it stands for many things to many people. Also, the words made from the letters BNB do not necessarily start at the first letter nor end at the last letter. The most popular meaning of BNB is: True Inner Beauty is Never Boring. That phrase came from the fact that although most large record label corporations will only work with musicians who are beautiful by society's cosmetically enhanced definition of beauty, what matters to our band is your inner beauty. Your inner beauty is TRULY never boring. Also, a few other popular definitions of BNB are:

* 'Babies Worldwide Need Brave Mothers Like YOU'
* 'Ballistic Rhythms Not Ballistic Missiles'
* 'Beautiful Planets Need Bicycle Riders'
* 'We entertain, so the distant Blue cloaked tangerine sunrise...
..will remain.
Not for the Blackened clouds of pollution...
of acid rain,
and oozing, toxic cash green layered lies.'

Is the BNB band an all female band? No. We have one male secretary. His (self-chosen) name is T.v.L.I.M.I.T. BNB.(The very least important member in the BNB). He is the one who makes most of the phone calls and takes scheduling appointment information.

What does "Christian Free-Op" mean?

Trying to describe the combination of the words "Christian" and "Free-Op" is like trying to describe the color combination "blackish blue" to a person starting to learn English. Just as a dictionary has many different definitions attached to the words 'blue' and 'black', so too, does each person have a different emotional history attached to each word in 'Christian Free-Op'. Thus, we wouldn't try to define it precisely. For an adult, the best answer that we can give to that question is for you to keep an open mind and read the King James Version Bible and discover your own definition of "Christian".

Then, for the definition of Free-Op, the easiest answer that we can give you is that "Love and Freedom combined with Community and Co-Op Support and Principles equals Free-Op".

However, for a more in depth hands-on explanation, perhaps you may want to visit a Co-Op grocery store to see how it operates, what it offers the community and earth and how it makes you feel just being there. [To find a co-op grocer in your state here is the directory

http://www.coopdirectory.org/directory.htm ]

Although there are an endless variety of wonderful co-op examples that we could give you all over the country, we would like to offer you one example from each of five different states:

http://www.northcoastco-op.com
a great example of selfless giving

http://www.olympiafood.coop
Simply walk into Olympia Co-op stores and take a look at their magazine selection and you will discover that they carry newspapers for Native Americans, Organic farmers and other groups that many mainstream stores refuse to carry. A great example of non-descrimination.

http://www.oceanafoods.org
The website is extremely outspoken on social justice issues.

http://www.boisecoop.com

A wonderful shopping experience.
Moab, Utah Co-Op's phone number (801) 259-5712 [no website]. Another excellent store.

For a simplistic easy to understand definition of Co-Op please see http://www.coop.org/kids/kindex.html

For a very detailed definition of Co-Op please visit http://www.ncba.org/primer.cfm

If you want an exhaustive definition of what the "Free" in Free-Op exactly means, here it is.

The "Free" in Free-Op means 7 things:

#1. It is important to us to at least attempt, to try to apply the principles of love and freedom in all that we do.

#2. It is important to us to feed the hungy, food that is free-of-charge to them.

#3. It is important to us to keep our poems, songs, stories and art FREE of counterproductive and divisive characteristics such as profanity, slander, hate and lyrics that encourage violence.

#4. It is important to us to support, encourage and promote the artistic FREEDOM that enables an artist to be truly independent. Many bands, clubs and groups offer their services only if you remain a member of their organization. However, once in the BNB, if members leave our band (temporarily or permanently) in good standing, we would like to continue to offer those members benefits simply due to having been part of our band. In this way, among other ways, we hope to help all our members remain artistically independent.

#5. It is important to us to support, promote and encourage the usage of free-of-charge Mp3 poetry, songs, stories and art for the people.

#6. It is important to us to let people know that we feel that New Hampshire license plate motto, "Live Free or Die" is sooOOooo cool!
br> #7. Free is FREE

How many people will their be in the BNB?
200 strong. No less, maybe more.

#3. Is it completely free to join? Yes! and other F.A.Q.s

What are the eligibility requirements?

DSAME believes in female empowerment. Thus, in order for you to be a member of the BNB you must be a female or your entire band must be females. Also, all songs, poetry or stories that you sing or read on the tape that you send to us must be written or composed by a female. The other eligibility requirements are:

#1. You must be a female who is 18 years or older.

#2. You must be a resident of any U.S. state or U.S. territory EXCEPT Alabama, California, Washington D.C., Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania or Texas. Sorry, but at this time, if we receive any mail fom people who desire to join the BNB who live in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Texas or Washington D.C., we will unfortunately have to discard it. Or, you can be a resident of any part of Canada.

#3. We are 100% against censorship. We are 100% pro-freedom of speech. But, in order that we do not offend listeners we ask that you do not use profanity (curse words) in your music, poetry or stories that you send to us. If you choose to use it with your own solo work or your band's work, without the BNB name anywhere on your work feel free to do so.

#4. Absolutely no illegal drugs. Please, if you use illegal drugs, we do not mean to offend you, but we ask that you do not contact us. Far too many brilliant musicians, poets, storytellers & artists have died in vain because of illegal drug usage. Have you ever watched someone you care about slowly deteriorate (mind, body & soul) because of a drug addiction?

#5. We are interested in all types of music, poetry and stories EXCEPT these 10 types: Jazz, reggae, classical instrumental (classical music with vocals is O.K.), deathmetal, polka, school marching bands, paradies, spoofs, swing, karaoke and any type of music that involves sampling (plagiarism/stealing)another artist's music, poetry or story without the original musicians' express written consent. Again, except for the types of music mentioned above, we are interested in ALL types of songs (with or without words, with and without music in the background), poems and stories.

We are interested in all types of materials within reason by bands, artists, photographers, blog and zine writers and zine distributors.

#6. Due to liability reasons, please do not send us any songs that you have used on a recording with which you have a contract with a record label.

#7. Sorry, due to it being a conflict of interest, please don't send us any material if you are a member of any non-profit organizations on Oak street in Portland, Oregon. Yes, that sounds highly ridiculous. Especially since non-profit organizations all over the world are unquestionably wonderful. But we have to make this an eligibility requirement so that there are no hard feelings and/or conflicts of interest with members of our band. Thank you for understanding.

What are the priorities and what is important to the BNB Christian Free-Op B.A.N.D. of bands?

#1. love

#2. Feed the hungry

#3. Stress-free living

#4. Entertain the people

#4. What things are not important to the BNB?

The only things about you that make a difference to us is YOU, not the characteristics that society defines you by. To be perfectly clear we have made a list of the things that are NOT important to us.

THESE BELOW THINGS ABOUT YOU ARE NOT IMPORTANT:

Your image * Your physical disabilities * Whether you have shaved head, tattoos or facial piercings * Your music experience * Your educational history * Your ability to travel * Whether you own an instrument * Whether you are hetero-, Sappho or bi- * Your religious affiliation * Your ability to rehearse * Your ability to read music * Whether you own a car * Whether you drink or smoke (although it is important to understand that because so many great musicians have needlessly died from drugs, we have a ZERO tolerance policy for illegal drugs and for the illegal distribution of any prescription drugs you may have access to. ZERO TOLERANCE. * Your past criminal record (although it is important to understand that we have ZERO tolerance for any current criminal activity, no matter how small. Unfortunately, this must be stated because so many struggling bands have chosen to engage in illegal activities to financially support their career. ZERO TOLERANCE.)

Even if the "only" thing you can do as a band member is stay at your home, write original songs, poems or stories and answer the phone... ...BELIEVE US when we say: YOU WILL BE EXTREMELY important to DSAME and the BNB.

We desperately need many BNB members with a separate or second phone line in their homes to answer calls, take messages, take phone orders and do phone research (which tape & book manufacturer uses 100% recycled paper and vegetable-based ink etc, has the best price, no hidden fees etc.,).

How Do I Join The BNB?

It's Simple. To join the BNB Christian Free-Op B.A.N.D. of Bands all that you need to do is 4 simple things.

#1. Make a recording of you or your band/group (or any of your female family members) singing one or more songs, or reading poetry, a story, a blog, or a zine that you (or your band/group) have written. If your song(s), poetry or stories have words, write down all the words IN ENGLISH. You do not need to write sheet music, just the words. You can place as many songs, poems or stories as you like on a tape or cd but PLEASE DO NOT send us more than two tapes or cds.

OR... If you are a non-musical artist (paintings, drawings, sculptors and many other mediums, etc.) or a photographer send 2 to 10 pieces of your work or photographs of your work if it is (oversized or wieghs more than a half of a pound). Make a very brief, (no longer than 2 minutes for each work) recording of you or your group describing each piece of work that you mail to us. Or you can speak about the type of non-violent activism that you are involved in. Please do not send originals because we do not return anything. Note: For a suggestion on what type of audio cds or tapes to use for best quality we suggest any cd or a maxell studio tape or any type of cassette tape that helps with background noise reduction. You can find specific info about maxell studio tapes here: http://www.maxell.com/Content/pdfs/MSStudioAudio.pdf

For suggestion on where to buy the studio blank tapes, although it is not required, please consider using Co-op America's Green Pages online - www.greenpages.org to find a store near you.

#2. Write down your artistic name (or your band's name), your real name(s), and as much of the below information that you desire to fill out. (all of the below imformation is optional and NOT required. We simply ask for so much information because it may take 1 to 3 weeks for us to contact you and we realize that artists tend to relocate more often than people in most professions.)

A. Your email address

B. Your phone number

C. Your mailing address

#3. You must include a photograph of you and each and every member of your band, including the person who wrote your songs. We do not require a recent photo. You may use a baby photo. It must be an actual photograph. It cannot be a laser printer photo or a photocopied photo. The only reason that we REQUIRE a photo is because we create a brochure/booklet that accompanies each music collection because people like to associate names with faces. Even if you do not get to perform on the upcoming music collection we will still place your name and photo in our booklet and list you as a BNB member. Everyone can help in a Christian Free-Op band in one way or another, sooner or later.

#4. If you do NOT live in the state of Oregon, this question is not required. If you do live in the state of Oregon, please answer this question: Are you currently a member of any non-profit organizations or businesses on Oak street in Portland, Oregon?

#5. Please mail us the answer to the following questions only if you want to do so. It is 100% optional.

Are you involved in any type of non-violent activism? If so, what type?

#2. Place everything in a strong envelope. Please avoid using boxes if possible.:

Mail it to the address found on this page: www.1dsame.com/1/contact.html

No phone calls please. No emails.

[Note: If you are a business considering sending us junk mail advertisements, please don't. We consider junk mail to be a blatant mockery to the precious life of a tree that had to die to create it. Thank you. No email Spam, either please.]

#6. Please be patient. You will usually hear from us very soon, but sometimes it may not seem soon to you. But we WILL contact you.

Thank You for reading the short version of the BNB infobook. :o]

Love & unity... ...for the people!

#5. Read a review written about the BNB Band and our band's zine!

The following is a review about the BNB band and our publication "Trace of the Hand":

"I'm still amazed that no matter how many crappy zines I get in the mail, or buy by accident thinking they'll live up to their name or cover, the brilliant treasures keep sneaking in, rare and wonderful, raising the bar... ...here are some of the most recent pieces of gold:

TRACE OF THE HAND (ISSUE # "ORGANIC PIZZA PLEASE")

110 pages. This is a very kind-hearted publication, full of information on how to help the "have-nots" - the disabled, elderly, minorities, homeless, and people of extremely low income. While rather long-winded and scrambly-looking, it is absolutely bursting with details of what you can do to change the bleakness of society and provides addresses and photos of various stores, restaurants, and organizations in the Portland area that are generously doing what they can to contribute. $10 sounds like a lot (um - I got it free from Davida), but here's what you get: the zine, an 8 1/2 x 17" poster, an audio tape (poetry, songs), a tiny bit of community-supportive food and a community-supportive aromatic item (Ed. - There were a few other food items that didn't make it out of XD headquarters - very good vegan mints and chocolate.). They call their zine an "All 5 Senses Zine Experience" because "it is meant to engage all the senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch...in a very personal way." The handwritten portions are punctuated by calligraphy, little hearts, smiley faces, and i's dotted with circles- at first I assumed this was the work of a crazy person, but it turned out to be very well-written and coherent and most of all, sincere. These are people who really don't have much money or food, who often don't have places to live, but they're doing everything they can to give something to the world with absolutely zero whining or judgment. Maybe it's a little corny and on the Christian side, but it's astoundingly sweet and upbeat, and really does inspire you to think of the world as a community, rather than as a bunch of selfish individuals only out to satisfy themselves."
