Why a geodesic dome?
A geodesic design uses a minimal amount of material for a large interior volume and floor space. Geodesic domes are inherently rigid and create a high open ceiling. Advantages of the geodesic design include a large floor area with no obtrusive posts or walls supporting the roof. The high open arch ceiling allows working inside on projects that would otherwise have to be done outside. Machinery and equipment can be extended and materials over 12 feet in length can be handled easily within its 37' diameter and 16.5' height. Geodesic domes present certain dilemmas that make them unsuitable for some applications. For other purposes though, they are ideal. Examples are atriums, greenhouses, stadium covers and large shelters, especially in remote locations. Acreage and farm owners will appreciate the possibility of a large low-cost shelter for equipment storage and working on projects in winter or foul weather. When a covering of plywood or OSB and shingles is used, the building would be a permanent building at a very low cost.

Frame materials
This 1100 sq. ft. shelter uses 120 construction grade 2x4 s, joiner plates of 3/4" plywood, and 480 plated 5/16" bolts with nuts and washers. The ground level boards are pressure-treated with preservative for long life. All wood is pre cut and drilled to exact specifications.

Doors
A zippered roll up opening 7' high, 8' wide at the top and 16' wide at the bottom is provided in our manufactured covers. A crank on the side makes opening and closing a breeze. Opening either side alone provides a triangular man door with large straps to hold it open securely. A 10' wide by 10' high opening is also available.

Covering
Covering material options include heavy duty UV resistant 6 mill polyethylene for greenhouses, coated fabrics, or sheathing of plywood or OSB. Sewn covers of woven polyethylene tarp or coated fabrics are excellent for most applications. The standard cover is silver / white woven rip-stop 9.7 oz. High-density polyethylene. A 6oz. translucent white flame retardant high-density polyethylene is also available. Oriented strand board sheathing may be used and protected with asphalt shingles. Approved ground anchors for securing the cover are available at a nominal cost.

Site Preparation and Assembly
The structure should be built on a solid dry footing. The ground should be level or secure supports provided at the fifteen bottom corners of the dome. The frame is easily assembled with a 1/2 " wrench. Assembly time is less than a day with this and 2 people.
