There's the laughter of a child,
gentle, pure and sweet;
pretend rose patterned china,
filled with a special treat.

A tiara fashioned of flowers,
a pretty pink princess gown,
all dressed up and waiting
for my prince to come around.

Playing house in make believe home,
baby dolls to dress up and love,
rocking them and singing to them
in a voice tender as a dove.

Crayons and coloring books,
a big fluffy teddy bear to cuddle,
entertaining circle of special friends
a tea party, gathering in a huddle.

As I look back on childhood memories,
I see not much has changed.
I'm still the same, only all grown up.
My life by divine order was arranged.

I have real china now to entertain.
Now, I play in a real house
with my own children to love and hug,
awaiting my prince, who is now my spouse.

I am glad to be the woman I am.
No longer hopes of future dreams,
now I live my dreams to the fullest,
in my eyes, youthful mirth still gleams.

Oh what memories I have of growing up. I have wonderful childhood memories. Growing up was playing dolls and Barbie's and house and make believe. It was playing outside till dark and riding bikes in neighborhoods without fear. It was playing kick the can and hide and seek. It was catching fire flies in mason jars. It was laying in the grass at night and watching for shooting stars and by day making animals from the clouds. It was dress up and beauty pageants. It was taking tomatoes right off the vine and eating. It was merry go rounds and monkey bars and swings. It was paper dolls and play do. It was board games and go fishing card games. It was Saturday morning cartoons like Pink Panther and Scooby Doo. It was tootsie roll pops and bubblegum. It was play makeup and wearing Mom's shoes and flavored lip gloss. It was crushes on the cutest boy in class and it was waiting by the street for the ice cream man.

Some of my favorite memories

Staying home from school sick and having Mom take special care of me.

Mom being a Cub Scout Leader and making the boys play with me!

Going to friends homes and while the parents play the card game, Rook, us children would play non stop till time to go home.

It was stopping at 7-11 for Ice's and collecting the cups.

I remember getting scared of crickets and running all the way home when some other kid threatened to throw one on me.

I have fond memories of saving my pennies to buy a bags full of candy.

Some of my favorite times were spending weekends at a cousin's house.

I have a special memory of Mom sewing my clothes and measuring me and even making us matching dresses which we wore to church.

I have memories of the Joy Bus from church and all the songs we sang. And of church camps and devotionals that were inspiring.

I once was turning cartwheels in the backyard and almost fell on two rattlesnakes. Dad found the hoe and tried to kill them, but they got away!

I remember all the family fish fry's we had and stealing a piece from paper bags the Mothers' would pile the fried fish in.

Once my brother shot me in the head by accident (or so he said) with a be be gun. My Mother dug had to dig it out of my head.

Once we children built a house from bricks and actually took potatoes from the house to cook in the house. We got in trouble when our Mothers saw the smoke coming from behind the bricks!

Mom used to turn on the attic fan at night and let the cold air blow through the house and it would get so cold we would have to pile quilts on us, but we loved it.

The vacations that my family took were always good ones. Dad worked hard during the year, but he always took us somewhere in the summer and we had fun.

Mom used to put hot sauce on our tongues for lying.

I used my Grandma's pump house for a playhouse. We used to take pickle juice and pretend it was grape juice for communion.

I used to walk the railroad tracks and put pennies on it to let the train flatten it.

We used to put on our own magic shows and charge admission and sell lemonade and snow cones for money too.
