Take
my hand and walk with me
To
a place I’ve never been.
And
show me the world of “fantasy”
That
only a child has seen.
Teach
me to ride on a magic carpet,
On
a trip to a far away land.
I
know I’ll be safe because, you’ll be there.
And
I know you’ll hold my hand.
Teach
me how to catch fire flies,
And
keep them in a jar.
Or
how to get lost, in a field of corn,
And
wonder where we are.
Teach
me about where the sunset goes,
As
it dips beneath the trees,
And
why fluffy clouds take different shapes
When
kissed by a gently breeze.
Teach
me where the shadows go,
When
the sun comes up each day.
And
how your hugs…. can do so much
To
chase bad dreams away.
Teach
me why snowflakes have so many shapes,
(And
who really counted them all?)
And
could we sit together, cuddled under a blanket,
Till
we watched the last one fall?
Teach
me to build a castle of sand,
Just
out of the reach of the sea.
Where
a lonely princess waits for her prince,
So
they can live happily.
Teach
me about the noises I hear every night.
And
what makes that scratchy sound,
When
the winter winds come each November,
And
blows all the tress around?
Teach
me about monsters that hide under my bed.
And
where do the dust bunnies go?
I
looked under there once, ‘cause I knew you’d protect me.
(Just
wanted to let you know.)
Teach
me why butterflies have such pretty colors,
(And
why can’t we see their eyes?)
And
can you make me a sword from aluminum foil,
So
we can hunt dragonflies ?
Teach
me where a goldfish goes when he dies,
And
is there a heaven somewhere?
If
I go to heaven, can you come along?
And
how do we know when we’re there?
Teach
me about rainbows and all seven colors,
And
who said there couldn’t be more?
And
what could we buy, if we found the gold
That
everyone’s looking for?
(To
tell you the truth, from what you have taught me,
I
wouldn’t spend a thing.
Worldly
processions just couldn’t compare,
To
the treasures your love would bring. )
Teach
me why young lovers put faith in a Daisy,
To
see if they’re loved or not.
I’m
new to this world, so please understand,
I
haven’t learned a lot.
Teach
me the feeling of your lips against mine
And
in my old age I’ll teach you a dance,
That
I learned as boy trapped inside a man,
When
somebody took the chance.
Take
my hand and walk with me
And
teach me what you know.
I’ll
show what “true love” is really like,
And
we can learn to make it grow.
