Battered Angel

Always and forever
Battered Angel

She lay there bruised and battered,
And bleeding on the floor;
She cried a million tears at least,
'til she could cry no more.

The door has closed,
She's safe for now
And reaches for the phone;
There must be someone out there,
She could not be alone.

But she can't tell,
A single soul,
'cause she's been warned,
"No one must know."

She staggers to the bathroom,
And cleans the bloody mess;
and with a needle and some thread,
she mends her torn up dress.

She dreams of being free of him,
But knows she never will;
The only escape from his dark wrath,
Is to be the victim of the kill.

He promised he would kill her,
If she ever left his side;
And he swore that he would find her,
If she ever tried to hide.

Again he came home drinking,
And he knocked her to the floor;
He yelled, and kicked, and stomped on her,
And her tears did fall no more.

The medics tried to save her,
But it was to no avail;
They placed her in a body bag,
And sent the man to jail.

She lay there in her coffin,
With a smile upon her face;
She knew he could not harm her now,
She'd found a peaceful place.

An angel came to take her home,
On a winged horse she did ride;
She entered Heavens gates, and then,
She sat by the Lords side.

He said, "My child , I love You,
And I've seen you suffer so;
And for all that you have lost my child,
I do want you to know.

That you are now an angel,
That I'll send from up above;
To fill the world with love and peace,
For you are now a dove."
