Do they not look at the birds, held poised in the midst
of the sky?
Nothing holds them up but (the power of) God.
Verily therein are signs for those who believe.
(Al-Quran 16:79)
Verily we do believe in Allah, the Almighty
and see the multifarious signs in the
birds being one of the most wonderful
creatures of the universe. Their
beauty has made our our world
more charming and delightful.
They soar in the air higher
and higher and can fly over
some of the highest mountains
on earth as well as both of
the earth's poles and dive
through water to depths of
more than 250 m. People have
long been fascinated by birds
for they are highly developed
animals, sensitive and responsive,
colorful and graceful, musical and
melodious with habits that excite
interest and inquiry. Generally
birds are found in great
abundance and variety in the same
habitats in which humans thrive.
We found delight and inspiration
in birds' capacity for flight
and made aeroplanes. We are
spellbound by their
musical tunes.
There are nearly 10,000 known species of modern
or recently extinct birds. Many bird species
undergo annual migrations so mysteriously
in order to seek continuous sources of
food and water and avoid environments
that are too hot or too cold. The
most spectacular bird migrations
are made by seabirds flying
across oceans and along
coastlines, sometimes
traveling 32,000 km
in a single year.
Among the best-known birds are the birds of
prey. Among them hawks, eagles, and
falcons are prominent and robust
and so well-known for their
strengtn, and other
so many superb
qualities.
Eagle or falcon or hawk is one of the most
favourite symbols of Iqbal,the greatest
Urdu poet-philosopher of the 21st
century, a sage, political
thinker and "seer" of
our beloved country
