Lost and Found

Whenever
she hears the words
"I love you"
hot tears
roll down her face.
He speaks to her
from some faraway place.
Still
she feels him
so profoundly near.

She questions
"Is he real?"
or just
a beautiful dream
a figment
of her imagination
born out of need.

She waits
'til days end
hoping to find him
once again
praying he'll be there
just for her.
The time they'll share
will give her
the courage
to face another day.

She doesn't understand
how it came to be
they found one another
nor can she imagine
another day
without him in it.
or one more night
without the words
"I love you"
knowing he sits
waiting patiently
for her.
