FOR DISC JOCKEYS:
Basic, obvious guidelines that generally go without saying...
(but we thought you might like to see in text anyway, just in case you maybe never thought concientiously about these standards of behavior)

Radio waves themselves are a community resource.
Stations are owned by private individuals or companies, or by public organizations and entities, such as collectives, communities, or governments.
Like rivers, the airwaves themselves must be respected.

When a person speaks via the mass media of radio/television waves, she or he must respect the audience.
(That's common sense--to keep people listening, and it's also to some extent a legal and/or moral obligation.)
This RESPECT has been codified into law, because some adults are not mature or capable enough to behave respectfully.
(Out of fear, some folks have focused on the law instead of personal responsibility to help keep each other in check, to ensure we all behave decently. This fearful/immature lack of personal responsibility ensures an undermining of the laws to begin with, leading to degeneration of the society. Laws are not made for responsible mature people who don't need them in order to behave in beauty and compassion.)

So here's the standards of good, decent, proper, lawful radio communication:
  1. Speak clearly, sometimes slowly, repeat yourself with contact information for the audience to get the info clearly and have time to write it down.
  2. Use 2nd person PLURAL, never 2nd person singular--this is not a telephone, is MASS MEDIA. (i.e. don't say, "this is for you, Jack Begay", say, "this is for Jack Begay". That is 3rd person, always o-k.)
  3. No profanity or indecent speech or slander or libel. Don't be rude, unfair, or hateful or violent in heart. Remember, children are listening and you are teaching them constantly.
  4. The FCC will enforce that last point (#3) if somebody complains.
  5. Have fun! The audience can hear your energy and enjoy it with you!

KRUG PHILOSOPHY:
Kaleidoscope Radio Under Gallup has been created to give the people of Gallup, New Mexico a forum for freedom of speech on the radio dial, limited only by the boundaries of nonviolence and love. This radio station aims to be free from fear. Our freedom enables our compassion and good will toward all.

Kaleidoscope Radio will not tolerate hatred and violence in our programming, because the point of community radio is to hold eachother in high esteem and to share our resources.

We come together in one radio station in mutual respect for each other, even when our attitudes and opinions are in conflict. We are committed to the good of all creation, including our own lives as humans.

Thus, our two shared values are NONVIOLENCE & FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
