joy to the world?

silver bells on a green fir tree
christmas has come to the land of the free
presents wrapped, spirits gay,
feasting, the order of the day
but out on the wind swept street
people search for food to eat
homeless searching for a protected niche
poverty is not a stranger in the land of the rich
mothers weep at the heart-breaking plight
of children going to sleep hungry every night
while all may be equal at birth,
after the first breath, many must fight for worth
buried beneath the myth of equality
lies a world of apathy
where men of wealth
learn to look away from the health
and starvation
of millions of indigents of this nation
to pay a decent wage for common toils
just might siphon riches from their spoils
some say that money is at fault
but I say the truth of this is naught
money is but a tool to use and trust
the fault lies with those that look on money with lust
