and His Relation to the 1800's

Introduction


This is a comprehensive look into the life of Edgar Allan Poe, and his great works. We will also learn what kind of effect Poe had on the 1800's and what kind of effect he has on present day literature.




The Task

When Edgar Allan Poe died, he was given an obituary that not even the worst of people should be given. This was a debotchery of his life and the great work he had done. Your task is to write an obituary for Poe as it should have been written, based upon his success today and the impact he left on the 1800's.

The obituary should include the following:

  • The years that Poe lived

  • His birthplace and early family life

  • His greatest accomplishments

  • At least three graphics showing importance in his life

  • A break down of at least two of his literary works, including when they were written and what they meant to him


  • The obituatary can be done as either a written assignment or as a Power Point presentation. Remember, have fun!

    By this time, you should be very refined in the life of Edgar Allan Poe, and in his great works, but you must ask yourself one more question: "What kind of effect did Egdar Allan Poe have in modern American literature, and what kind of effect did he have in own time?"     Congrats on making it this far. Now that you are an expert in the life and times of Edgar Allan Poe, you should be able to compile the perfect obituary that he never recieved. The obtuary must be at least one typed page long, using MLA format, or if you have chosen to piece together a power point presentation, it must be at least eight slides in length. When you are completed with your project, turn it in to your teacher and rest assured knowing that you are now an expert in the life of Edgar Allan Poe.
