Confluere is a poetry organization designed to illustrate the many ways of how a single idea can be transformed into a poem. E-mail based, a topic contributed by a member is sent out each week. By the end of the week, participating writers have the opportunity to send out to each member her/his poem resulting from the topic. No poem is meant to be a final draft; rather, it strives to motivate and inspire different perspectives and possible masterpieces. In addition, no writer is bound to continually write week after week. One person may be in the middle of a writer's block, so hopefully Confluere and its members can serve as a means to break through it. However, a member is free to treat the organization casually. To add to the purpose of widening mental horizons, all participating writers have the right to comment and/or critique another person's poem in private. This not only aids the writer with a person conveying her/his interpretation of the poem, but it also aids the reader with how to read the poem. When a poem is read, the reader should react to it and not be a simple receptacle. What is available is a means of exploring ideas that the poem may tackle or utilize. Thought stimulation is a key part of Confluere. Most important, however, is that there is no claim by Confluere to house poets. The members are certainly writers, but the auspicious title of 'poet' is a difficult name to attain. It takes much more than writing poetry to make oneself a poet (and there are no guidelines available).
