A New Beginning

Part 2

Lynn was standing in front of the window when Jenn walked back into the room. Jenn stood there for a moment just looking at the soon to be queen. She quietly approached Lynn trying to sneak up on her and as soon as she was in arms length of her she said, " I thought you’d be dressed by now."

Lynn had heard her and she turned to Jenn and laughed.

" I was just thinking about some things. Why? Are you in a hurry to get me out of here today," Lynn said grinning.

"May be. Really, Lynn, you have a busy day. Well what’s left of it… it’s almost noon. Come on…," she said as she took Lynn by the hand and led her over to the clothes.

" OK, Jenn, I’m dressing this time. I promise," Lynn smirked.

"Good, because if you’re not dressed when I get back, I’m dressing you myself," Jenn sputtered barely able to control her giggles. Lynn began blushing from head to toe.

Stop it! She could never be attracted to me. Think! Think!

" Uhh… I don’t think that will be necessary," Lynn said while looking anywhere other then those green eyes.

When Jenn came back in a few minutes later the princess stood before her dressed in her finest black silk shirt and black riding pants looking out the window. Her black leather boots were polished to a brilliant shine, but what caught Jenn’s attention was the way the short tailored jacket she wore fit her like a second skin. She was a vision of power and beauty standing there.

"…Hello… Jenn… are you all right," Lynn asked confused by the way her friend was acting.

"Uhh… Oh yeah… I was just wondering if you’re all right…," Jenn managed to get out. Damn it! Stop that… For Gaia’s sake she’s fixing to be your queen…

Smiling as she moved across the stone floor worn smooth with years of wear, Lynn said," Well come now. I want to this horrible thing in to the past where it belongs. I trust that my mothers advisors have already arranged things."

"Yes, Lynn. Everything has been prepared. They are just awaiting your arrival to begin," Jenn said as she walked with the princess to door of her royal suite.

"I will be back as soon as I can. While I’m gone don’t let those meddle-some advisors touch or move one thing in this room. Tell them or anyone working on their behalf that there will be hell to pay if I find one thing touched, moved, or missing… and that includes you…" Lynn said with a smirk on her face.

Lynn strolled out the door and down the corridor making her way to the council chamber. When she walked through the door she found all of her mother’s advisors arguing amongst each other as to who she was going to keep on and who she was going to dismiss.

"Quiet! You will know soon enough as to which precious few of you I am going to keep on," she shouted. In a more level tone she said, "Now sit, everyone, and lets begin." She noticed the head of her Royal Guard leaning back in her chair smiling as she took her own seat at the head of the table. The fear in the room was so thick she could taste it in the air as she spoke her first words, "When is the interment of my mother to begin?"

It was her mother’s lead advisor that spoke. " I thought that we could begin it in the morning and continue until mid-afternoon. If that would please Your Highness?"

Lynn turned to the pale emaciated woman and scowled. " I was thinking myself, and I think that my mother was not loved. I do not wish to force MY people to mourn her wretched memory. No an announcement will be made this afternoon saying the Queen has passed and a short service will be held tomorrow at sunrise and lasting the duration of the High Priestess’s sermon. Then I want my mother moved into the royal mausoleum," she declared, her eye like chips of ice.

The advisors gasped in astonishment. Her mother’s lead advisor, Alyha, stood up and screeched, " This is an outrage. Your mother deserves…"

Lynn jumped from her seat and right into the feeble woman’s face growling, "How dare you even think to speak to me like that. My mother deserves far less than what I am doing. She was a witch, a tyrant, and a merciless dictator to her people. She did not care for them. She only cared for what she could take from them."

Alyha shrank back in fear and fell into her seat. Lynn turned from her disgusted and snarled, " Now on to who goes…"

Lynn turned and walked back to the head of the table. She leaned down and placed her hands down upon the rough wood, her long dark hair falling forward and a smile playing on her lips. As she looked down the length of the table she saw fear evident on most of the faces, and that’s when she made her decision.

She spoke in a commanding tone saying the names forcefully , " My head of the Guard, Christine , High Priestess Rayanna, Military Advisor Leah…" As she paused she saw the faces of the fearful grow more confident with each passing name. Oh how she was going to love this.

"The people I have just referred to may stay. The rest of get out of my sight and my home. You have the rest of the day to move you belongings from the castle."

She smiled as she watched as the faces of those malevolent demons fell in complete shock. She was just as surprised as they stood and left the room without a single protest.

She turned back to her chosen few and addressed her Priestess, "Madam High Priestess, I would greatly appreciate it if you would see to the details of the internment as I am exhausted and wish to return to my chambers."

Priestess Rayanna bowed deeply and said simply, "As you wish, my Queen."

Lynn threw her hands into the in exasperation. "Pardon me Priestess, that is another thing. I want a simple coronation. Can you arrange it," she asked.

Once again the Priestess bowed and stated simply with a smirk on her face, "As you wish, my Queen."

She turned to the other two and said laughing, " Well Leah, Christine. Do you two think you can manage with out me for the rest of the day?"

They both snorted with laughter. "Can you still take us on the training field, young Queen,"

Leah smiled as she retorted, "Yes, yes I can, and with that said I will be on my way back to my chambers," Lynn chuckled as she left the room.

When she reached her room she found everything as she had left it. That is except for Jenn. What the newly made Queen saw left her speechless. Jenn had curled up on her bed and fallen asleep. In the soft light her relaxed face looked like that of an angel. Lynn could almost see the halo above her head. She approached the bed and knelt down beside it. She didn’t dare to touch the sleeping beauty. Instead she just sat there admiring her angelic face, and feeling the love wash over her.

As Jenn felt the faint stirrings of wakefulness, she realized she was being watched. She opened her eyes to look directly into the crystal blue eyes of her Queen.

With a start she sat up and said, "Forgive me. I’m sorry I didn’t mean…"

That was as far as she got before Lynn interrupted. "Stop that, Jenn. It’s foolish of you to think I would get angry over something so small. Besides you are my best friend. We do need to talk though. I have a proposal to make to you and I hope you accept," Lynn said softly, a smile playing on her lips.

Lynn moved over to the balcony and looked down into the garden, waiting for Jenn to follow.

I wonder what she’s up to now, Jenn thought as she walked over to stand beside Lynn. "Yes, Lynn. What is it that you wish to discuss," a wary Jenn asked.

Lynn looked over at her hopefully soon to be new top advisor and laughed. "Are you a bit nervous little one," she smirked.

Jenn lifted an eyebrow and said, " Well my long legged one, what torture do you have in mind for your poor young servant girl."

This caused Lynn to laugh even harder. "Torture, huh? Well, does no longer being my servant sound like torture to you," she said, looking down on the garden again. When she received no response she turned to see what was wrong. Her eyes met misty green ones and she realized how what she had said sounded.

"No, little one. You misinterpret my meaning here. I don't wish to be rid of you. On the contrary, I wish for you to be my partner in crime so to speak," Lynn said as she reached out to caress Jenn’s pale soft cheek.

Jenn’s brows creased in confusion and she asked," What on earth are you talking about now?"

Lynn laughed and turned back to the garden for a moment. When she turned back to look into those mesmerizing green eyes she was deadly serious. "Will you be my first advisor?"

She could see the joy and delight in Jenn’s eyes as she smiled. "For that you scared the life out of me? You are an insensitive and impossible woman and yes, but how will . . . , " Jenn said.

"All you need to do is be you and you will fulfill the role nicely," Lynn said laughing, all the seriousness gone from her face now.

"All right my long legged one," Jenn said smiling with her friend.

Lynn was watching Jenn as she laughed and saw the dark cloud of emotion pass across her face. "What? What is it that troubles you," Lynn asked concerned.

Jenn looked down to at the floor as if it suddenly fascinated her. "The council will never let it happen, you know," she whispered.

Lynn took Jenn’s hand. "Come, lets sit and tell you all about my morning. I’ve been very busy this morning indeed," Lynn said as she led Jenn to the chairs by the fireplace.
