WILL IT RAIN

"Will it rain? Will it rain?"
Her little eyes asked as anxiously
as a little child separated from her parents.

But the sad thing was that she had no parents;
living on the streets alone
in her torn clothes and puddles.

So it had a little more meaning
when her little eyes asked me,
"Will it rain? Will it rain?"

This was just heartbreaking to me... But I just made it up, it's totally fictional.
Picturing a child less than 10 years old, wishfully hoping it won't rain since they're homeless and helpless.
And they're so helpless they don't even know how to get the information, they won't know where to get it if I don't give them the information.
(and won't be able to do anything even if I give it to them, which is why they can only be anxious).
Maybe put a comma after the word "but" ? Maybe put a "me" after "asked" in 2nd line?

The other thing that's moving about it is what will happen to them if it rains.
For them, even the rain is a big issue, because they don't know how to deal with it so they just get wet and miserable and are scared of that situation.
So the thing is it's both the lack of basic knowledge and the lack of the ability to handle such a basic thing that makes the child so vulnerable and arouses such sympathy.
