THE TRAGEDY OF SCIENCE

The longer I live
the more I see
that unrealized ideas of mine
will always eventually be achieved,
as handfuls of others come up with the same ideas,
typically within a few years.

Driving home after 10 pm
after working late
a tree branch waves,
and in my mind
I see you dancing mirthfully,
in the sunlight, somewhere,
a smile on your face.

Scientific advancement
can yield amazing things,
but cannot compare
to the wonderment of music.

What is the point of working so hard
if sunlight exists, somewhere.
The world lives
long after any scientific advancements
but our opportunities to enjoy sunlight
do not wait.

Not very satisfied with the first stanza.
The third stanza and transition after it started rough but I am satisfied enough to leave it.
