QUEEN

The eggshells of old loves
crunch beneath our feet.
But you stand so regally
That all the other women seem like girls.
Anyone who sees you
sees that you are a queen.
The court and kingdom
pester you with jesters and woes.
But when we are back in our chambers
your ear is mine
to discuss matters of substance,
and to kiss.

Eggshells of old loves is not only a metaphor for the remnants of the old relationship: The eggshell metaphor includes that the old relationships had their own beginnings (as eggs).
